Summary

➡ The Millionaire Morning Show w/ Anton Daniels talks about how firefighters in California are battling a new fire, named the auto fire, which is currently not contained at all. Strong winds, potentially reaching hurricane force, are making the situation more difficult and could lead to more fires. There’s concern about the impact of these winds on the progress made in controlling existing fires. Meanwhile, there’s ongoing repair work in communities already affected by the fires, and questions are being raised about the state’s leadership and their ability to prevent such disasters.

➡ The text discusses the water problems in areas like Nevada, Arizona, and California, and suggests investing in desalination technology, which removes salt from water, as a solution. It also mentions wildfires in LA and the need for rain, with strong winds expected to increase. The text argues that initial investment costs in new technologies, like desalination, can be reduced over time through mass production, similar to how costs for items like TVs have decreased over time.

I had to give you guys an update on what’s going on with these fires over in California. How long do y’all think these fires are going to be raging on? Fire crews now working to contain a new fire that erupted overnight in Southern California. This one is called the auto fire. It’s now at 0% containment. Wind gusts today could reach hurricane force up to 70 miles an hour. A rare type of red flag wind warning also in effect in L.A. and Ventura counties until Wednesday because of those winds threatening more new fire outbreaks spreading the Palisades and Eaton fires.

I spoke to the L.A. County Fire Chief on Monday. Are you worried that these new winds may undo the progress that you’ve been able to make? Oh yeah, absolutely. If we get a new fire start in a different location, it could be very difficult to contain. CNN’s Michael Yoshida is live for us in Altadena. Michael, good morning. What are you seeing there and what have we learned overnight? Hey, good morning Casey. When you talk about that new fire popping up just put in perspective, that’s about an hour west of us, but it’s the perfect example of that concern that officials have been talking about and why over the last day throughout the overnight hours as our team has driven through the Palisades through Brentwood here into Altadena.

We’ve seen so many fire crews staging pre-positioning, trying to be ready for if one of those new sparks, those flare-ups happen so they can quickly get a handle on it. Now, while we have that ongoing concern and threat of those fires and new fires this morning, I’m not sure if you can hear, but we have a lot of work happening here in this Altadena neighborhood, utility crews, gas companies, others hard at work, trying to begin some of that repair work. Obviously, as you can see behind me, this, as we’ve been talking about, one of those communities that’s been devastated by the Eaton fire.

You can see some of the lines as well still hanging down. Just an example of how much work is ahead for these communities in and around Los Angeles. But again, right now, that most pressing threat, that biggest concern overnight heading into the rest of the day is going to be how those winds continue to potentially shift and what impacts they may have on those fires that they’ve already been working so hard to get those new fires such as that auto fire may pop up as well. All right, so I know that the leadership in California is woefully inadequate and they don’t take care of business.

We know that. We know that Gavin Newsom didn’t do his job, but he’s trying to make sure that he rebrands and put himself in a position to be able to run for president of the United States of America in 2028. That goes without saying. We know or we predict that Kamala Harris is potentially going to run for governor of California. And the question then becomes, do you think that she’s going to do a better job than Gavin Newsom? That’s number two. Number three, we know that these mayors such as Karen Bass, at least the diversity, equity and inclusion mayors are doing a horrible job and being able to manage and do things the right way.

We know this now. Here’s my question. Here’s my question because wildfires, we just now bring in more visibility to it because this could potentially be one of the worst wildfires or some of the worst wildfires in the history of California, as far as the amount of damage that they’re doing. My question then becomes, is there really anything that you guys can do about it or is that just a part of the culture? Jack Covington, I agree with you. I think that’s some, a lot of people are setting the fires. Is there anything that you guys can do about it? Why is it only happening in California? How come it doesn’t happen in Seattle? How come it doesn’t happen in Arizona? How come it doesn’t happen in Nevada? Well, I know Nevada is basically a desert, but I’m just saying, how come these places are just completely uncontained? How come it doesn’t happen in Miami? How come it doesn’t happen in any of these other places? And I’m open to learning because I don’t know.

I don’t understand is there anything that you guys can do that prevents yourselves from having your homes burnt down on a regular basis? I was watching a view yesterday. Sorry to admit it. I have to be honest. I have to be honest. Somebody says Kamala Harris. No way Kamala Harris will win. I’ll take that bet. I’ll take that bet. I’ll take that bet all day long. I will take that bet 10 times out of 10. We’re going to talk about it on after hours tonight. I will take that bet. My question is, is there a way to prevent this from happening at all? And how come it doesn’t happen in other places? It’s too moist there in Seattle.

Man can’t control the weather. Well, it’s not just about the weather. It’s also about the environment that natural disasters thrive in, right? For example, we know that we get snow in Michigan. We actually like having all four seasons in Michigan. And so what we do is that we have different building codes. We separate our structures a certain way. We make sure that we do preventative maintenance. We have people that are dedicated to managing our parks and recreation areas. We actually pay parks and recreation, not taxes, but, you know, if you want to signed up for a certain sticker, when you renew your tax for your cars, you can actually help donate to that.

We have things in place and it has been for a long time that allows for us to be able to manage certain things more effectively, right? No? All right. Michael Yoshida for us this morning. Michael, thanks very much for that report. And that new fire burning right now in Ventura County could spread because of those gusty winds. He was just talking about in the area is under the highest possible threat level from wildfires. Let’s go to our meteorologist, Alison Chinshar, with more on what to expect today. Alison, good morning. Good morning.

And I think that’s really been the biggest concern all along. It’s not necessarily, you know, the fires that are there. We have several that are at 100% containment. It’s all these new fires that just pop up. What happens to those, especially as those winds continue to rage throughout the day. Here’s a look at the red flag warnings that we have in effect for today. And some of these even go all the way through Wednesday afternoon. This is both the combination of those strong gusty winds up. You say we have wildfires in Oklahoma all the time.

They do preventative. See, that’s what I’m saying. How come Oklahoma, for example, if they have wildfires, they’re able to prevent that. I mean, it’s some things that you can’t prevent. You can’t prevent tornadoes, right? You can’t necessarily prevent hurricanes unless you want to factor in and you want to throw in some caveats and say, well, they control the weather. I know it’s a lot of people that believe that. I don’t think that that’s out of the realm of possibility, but just for the sake of conversation, let’s just assume that they’re not some things that are natural disasters.

Let’s say you got the occasional pyromaniac or arson is over here. Is it a way for you to prevent this from being so catastrophic or is this just a way that the culture is going to be for the rest of your lives over there in California? Like, are you expecting? I was going back to what I was saying originally, I was watching the view because I was watching whoopi Goldberg crash out and she was saying that her home burned down and her other home when she was living in California burned down and it’s home burned down and that home burned down.

And so I’m trying to figure out like, is it a way where you guys can basically put yourself in a position to where every single year we’re not talking about how bad the wildfires are? I’m just trying to understand it. We’re on 60 to 70 miles per hour, but also taking into account how dry the air actually is, but even embedded within the red flag morning, you have these two areas here that kind of like that darker purple pink color. Where they are considered a particularly dangerous situation embedded in that does include three of the fire for fires that we are watching.

They are in one of those PDS is, but it also includes places like Ventura, Thousand Oaks, San Fernando. Again, a lot of these communities are inside of these. So it’s going to be something we have to keep a very close eye on as those wins begin to take up. You look as we go through the day, look at some of these 40, 50 mile per hour gusts starting to pop up, even in some of the more heavily populated areas throughout the day today. And continuing into at least the first half of the day, somebody said, cannot use salt water.

Salting the earth is a thing. Well, you can do, you do realize that over in other countries, they’re investing in desalinization. So they basically, because we have an endless source of water on the earth and in a lot of places like Nevada and Arizona and California, they are having water problems because unlike here in Michigan where we’re basically connected to the largest fresh body of, freshest body of water on the face of the earth and the great lakes. So we’re never going to have those problems as far as a lack of clean water.

We have problems in Flint when it comes to the pipes and our infrastructure, completely different conversation, but you guys are sitting next to the ocean. And so there are other countries that have no zero and I mean absolutely zero, fresh water body sources. And so they’ve invested in desalinization, basically the removing of salt from the water and modern technology so that they can then utilize this massive body of water to continue to feed the population and live everyday life. It’s a, it’s a natural source that’s supposed to be available for us to be able to grow and be successful.

Why, why aren’t we investing in the latest technologies as far as desalinization or is that too much of an ask or do you guys not pay enough taxes already and they need to allocate more resources to that? Or are y’all robbing Peter to pay Paul in order to pay interest on the loans that y’all have already taken out as Californians? I’m just asking the questions that nobody want to ask. Tomorrow, possibly into the afternoon hours, you’ve got these wind advisories with the wind gusset bar on 50 to 55 miles per hour, the high wind warning where they could get up to 60, even 70 miles per hour.

And yes, this does include the areas where we have all four of those fires. So we’ll have to keep an eye out. But the one thing, Casey, that they really need is rain and we just simply don’t have that in the immediate forecast. Yeah, really difficult. All right, Alison Shinshaw for us this morning. Alison, thanks very much for that. We’re turning back now to the wildfires raging still in LA to speak to someone in the region, Todd Hall, a senior meteorologist with the National Weather Service working in their Los Angeles office.

Todd, I know we had a few issues with connections earlier. I hope you can hear me now. So just bring us up to date on the latest with the weather forecast because we were expecting these strong winds hurricane-like winds to pick up once again midweek. Is that what we’re seeing? Jesus Christ. Yeah, we’re going to expect those winds to increase again overnight tonight. Just go ahead and take California. We’re going to see those winds start to increase as we get into sunrise here and shortly thereafter. And so we could see gusts between 55 and 70 miles per hour across the area.

And we’re already seeing these critical fire. Somebody said desalinization is expensive. Everything is expensive until you drive the cost down by making sure that you invest in it and the new technologies. Lithium ion batteries was super expensive. General Motors was the first one to create an electric vehicle until you continue to have mass production of it. And then you can drive the cost down by making sure that you normalize the process. Everything is expensive when you first invest in it. The cost to manufacture cars, concrete. Everything is expensive when you first invest in it.

TVs were expensive. Now you can go and get one. You can go and get an 85 inch for $900. I remember when people was waiting in line to pay $34,000 for a plasma TV. The cost is driven down by our investment in it. But I think that the investment should always be in the infrastructure because that’s the thing that keep us alive and keep your house from burning down. Is it more expensive to rebuild your house or to invest in the technologies that allow for you to be able to put the fire out and do preventative maintenance? That’s all I’m asking.

It’s a situation again after 4 a.m. this morning when those winds start to peak again and we start to see the much drier air pushing with the same wind event. As important is the direction of those winds, isn’t it? And whether or not they’re going towards the built up areas. Can you tell us anything about that? Yeah, so in right now we’re seeing a little bit more of an easterly push. That is what fueled the auto fire near Ventura earlier. It will be late last night actually. But what we’re seeing is we’ll probably see a little bit more of a shift back to the northeast a little bit.

And that will cause different canyons from our complex topography to actually increase. They’ll see wind surface in some different canyons. Yeah, I think it’s a play on California. It’s always a play on California. [tr:trw].
