Biden Impeachment Inquiry Announced Amid Damning Allegations

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced Tuesday that Republicans will lead a historic impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden over “serious and credible allegations” of misconduct.
McCarthy says Biden lied to the public about his family’s business dealings, and formally declared he is authorizing an official impeachment probe into the president.
“I do not make this decision lightly,” McCarthy emphasized, arguing the facts should deeply concern all Americans regardless of what political affiliation they may have.
Speaking at a press conference, McCarthy said pursuing impeachment is the “logical next step” following months of escalating GOP investigations that have raised troubling questions about Biden’s actions.
McCarthy contends it will empower committees to fully uncover the truth.
“This logical next step will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public is exactly what we want to know the answers,” he stated.
“I believe the president would want to answer these questions and allegations as well.”
The White House swiftly condemned the move as an unsubstantiated partisan attack to rile up the Republican base, but McCarthy argues avoiding a shutdown is essential so the investigations can proceed.
He expressed confidence the votes are there to launch the inquiry despite reservations from some moderates.
McCarthy has repeatedly said he won’t pursue impeachment for political gain, calling it a natural outcome of revelations about Biden family foreign dealings and alleged abuses of power.
As talk of impeachment ramps up, McCarthy is also managing demands from fiscal conservatives for more spending cuts in a funding bill.
He warned a shutdown would halt all investigations into Biden.
