Got some breaking news here, guys and gals. Imagine a world where every online move you make is watched, analyzed, and potentially used against you. Sounds like a dystopian novel or 1984, but it’s actually happening right now and we have proof. And it’s in the gun community. Welcome back to the channel, guys and gals. Today, I’m gonna do a deep dive into some breaking news that just came out about ATF, thanks to our friends at Gun Owners of America. Now, ATF has been caught in a covert online surveillance operation on law-abiding gun owners, and we know some of this stuff was happening, but to the extent will shock you.

Thanks for the relentless efforts of Gun Owners of America. They obtained a response to their Freedom of Information Act request. It’s a FOIA request that sheds light on ATF’s Internet Investigations Center, or IIC. GOA submitted this FOIA request on January 8th of 2020. ATF finally responded back to GOA on November 24th, 2024, almost five years later. And now, this document reveals how ATF monitors social media platforms to identify what they perceive as threats. Gray area, there’s no definitions of what a threat is. And wait until you hear what they have been monitoring and how they mock you.

It says, quote, to monitor, capture, and analyze social media websites for information that indicates a significant public safety threat to the public at large. Now, they utilize open source and commercially available data sets to scour multiple platforms.

And here’s how it works. They monitor social media for threat indicators. Once identified, these threats are assessed for credibility. If deemed credible, the IIC preserves the content and drafts an emergency disclosure to the relevant platform. And what have they been monitoring, you might ask? Well, how about online gun forums, social media, post message boards, and websites like ARFCON, the world’s biggest and most popular gun forum, Reddit, Facebook, Craigslist, American listed, and much, much more since 2015, a decade ago. And that’s several presidents as well. ATF even said that if what they’ve monitored, you on, proves to be legal and lawful, well, they’re still going to monitor you anyway, you know, just in case.

Now, I mentioned that they mocked us as well. In this document, which I’ll have linked down below, thanks to GOA, the ATF says the only reason we the people want to avoid oversight on firearms is because they are saying we are either criminals or we don’t want the government to know we have guns. Oh yeah, and they in the whole time have decided to target us over criminals. Now, while public safety is an important thing, this process raises critical questions about privacy and the potential for overreach. What defines a threat indicator? How do we ensure that this surveillance doesn’t infringe on our first amendment rights? Well, we don’t have the ability to, which is why…

yeah, I’m gonna stay on target here. The ambiguity in online expressions can lead to misinterpretations. I guess that’s the nicest way I can say it. A sarcastic comment or a joke could be unwarranted scrutiny or a knock at your door at 0500 and armed thugs kick through your door and damn you if you try to respond to a threat in your home in the cover of night. Now, it’s crucial for us as citizens to be aware that these surveillance practices are happening and we have proof now. Transparency and oversight are essential to balance scrutiny with individual freedoms.
