Summary

➡ Two men, Nicholas Cuellar and Julian Cuellar, are wanted by Houston police for a crime involving a 16-year-old boy who was hit by a car and then shot. The incident, which took place in late July, was linked to the Cuellars through Nicholas’ ankle monitor data and a white SUV registered to his girlfriend. Despite the teen surviving and Nicholas admitting to the crime, both men are still at large. The speaker reflects on how the culture of the streets has changed, with younger individuals becoming involved in crime and a lack of respect and guidance from older generations.
➡ A store owner was attacked by two masked men who stole cash, cell phones, and cigarettes, leaving him injured. The store had makeshift bulletproof protection, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the crime. The community is shocked as crime is not common in the area, and they hope the suspects will be caught soon. The incident has led to increased security measures and a call for unity in the community.

Let me show y’all some of the crime that I’ve been seeing out here in the streets. It’s crazy, bro. Thank you for joining us tonight. I’m Keith Garman. And I’m Daniella Guzman. We begin tonight with a search for two men accused in connection to a crime where a 16-year-old on a scooter was hit with a car and then shot. Now the teen did survive. We want to give you a look at your screen. Houston police say 40-year-old Nicholas Cuellar and 25-year-old Julian Cuellar are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Nicholas’ nephew is also charged, but he is in custody.

The shooting happened in late July near Solo Street and Oates Street in 5th Ward. Keith Garvey’s C2’s Corley Peel is near that area now with how court documents say police connected the suspects to this crime. Corley. Keith and Daniella, records show that Nicholas Cuellar recently got out of prison and was required to wear an ankle monitor. Houston police say the tracking information from that ankle monitor put him here at the scene at the time of that shooting. Investigators say he actually spoke with police and admitted to the crime, but it’s unclear where he is and why he hasn’t been found.

Surveillance shows Nicholas Cuellar chasing down a 16-year-old teen on a scooter with this white SUV. This is near Oates and Solo Street. Records show Nicholas’ nephew Julian is in the passenger seat pointing a rifle out the window, firing a shot, but he misses. Investigators say Nicholas hit the teen with the car, knocking him off his scooter. Nicholas told Houston police his 16-year-old nephew in the backseat shot the teen on the ground. A month after the shooting, police found the white SUV in an HEB parking lot. It was registered to Nicholas’ girlfriend. Police got Nicholas on the phone who says before the shooting he showed up to a relative’s house, finding Julian and his 16-year-old nephew in the front yard with guns.

They asked Nicholas to roll around the block to find the teen on the scooter and his friends who allegedly were throwing rocks, breaking windows at the house. After the shooting, Nicholas’ teen nephew was arrested, but he and Julian are still on the run. The streets used to have a cold. The streets wasn’t rocking like this. Listen, this is the way it used to be. It used to be to where whenever the OGs or the people was doing something or they was out here, if they seen the young bulls, especially if they was related to them, they didn’t tell them that, hey, I’m gonna come jump in the car and we about to go put in some work to get.

That’s not what it was. It was like, hey, my OGs and the people that came up, and this is the reason why I got the mentality that I have right now. It’s not that I didn’t grow up around it. It’s not that it wasn’t normalized what was happening. I grew up in the inner city just like everybody else, but I had a lot of different impacts and influences on me, some from my father, some from my family, some from the church, and then some from the streets. But here was the streets.

The streets, when they seen that she was a young bull and you have potential and all of this stuff, they told us to stay out the streets. Hey, man, what you got going on? Hey, how you doing in school? Hey, bro, stay in school, man. You don’t want to end up out here on these streets or whatever, so on and so forth. That’s what our OGs told us. Our OGs, when we would see them put in work and we will be like, hey, man, I want to be out in these streets like you were with you.

Ah, bro. What you talking about? Man, you got good parents, bro. You got this and that, so on and so forth. And they knew that they was going to die. They knew that they was going to go to jail. They knew that they wasn’t going to ever be nothing. And so they was living their life, but at the very least, they still had love for the people that was coming up after them, where they had love for the people that they knew had greater potential. And I don’t know if it was spiritual.

I don’t know if it was internal, where even people that was doing wrong could still see the potential in somebody else that was doing right. And so my cultural norms was different because when I was coming up, it was like, ah, you know, cause I remember, like, I remember when I first, uh, my dad had sent me to, um, my dad had sent me to private school because I was, you know, starting to get, get involved in stuff. I wasn’t supposed to. So it wasn’t when I was in middle school, he sent me to private school and he sent me to all boys school.

And so the running joke on me at the time, as I ain’t no hoes in there, you got to focus on all of them heart legs and all of this stuff, right? But we didn’t take it as serious as the guys on the internet today. And then guys, we took everything as a joke. You learn how to Jones back. That’s how I know how to cap on y’all. So, y’all say stuff in the chat. It ain’t nothing that I never heard before because I grew up getting, you know what I’m saying? We capped on it.

We called it capping. We Jones on each other. We capped on each other. So you had to have strong comebacks. And so, yeah, that’s all right. But as soon as I got home after hanging with the boys, you know, I was so I was, I was charged up. So I made sure I fingerbanged your chick. So you always came back with a, with a joke, you know what I’m saying? And so that’s how we, we was tough. We wasn’t sensitive like the guys that be in my chat today. The guys that’s in the chat today, they uber sensitive, they uber feminine, they ready to crash out.

If somebody say, yo mama, yo mama mama, don’t you ever say no mama mama. And so it was different back then. We used to Jones all day and you just couldn’t be sensitive. And then you start to develop the thick skin, right? And so that was the running joke. Ah, that’s why your parents sent you to an all boy school or whatever. And this was the OGs and different people that teased you. But at the same time, the joke was in jest because they also was great advocates for you to go off and do great things.

Hey man, you smarter than us or you suck. Hey man, I want to know. Man, stay your punk at home, bro. Come on, man. Let’s go do whatever the ways you got to do. So our OGs was different, or at least mine or people from Detroit was different. They didn’t want you in the streets. They wanted better for their kids. They, they, they knew that they wasn’t necessarily going to be anything, but they didn’t want you to go down the same path as them. And so they protected you. I don’t know what this group of people is doing right now.

I don’t know what’s going on in the streets. The OGs act like the little kids. The people is acting stupid. Everybody acting like they ain’t got no sense. The people that’s putting it in work is younger and younger and younger every single day. What do you mean? What do you mean? Why is it so young? Why they so, where’s they getting all of this from? Where is they getting it from? Like they not learning this on their own. Do what you think that these young boys, 11, 12 years old, that they went and found guns on the street, man, they’re getting that straight from their homies.

They’re getting it from the OGs because they don’t care nothing about them no more. It’s a, it’s a different time. It’s a different place that, that stuff is taking place nowadays. Don’t nobody got no real respect for each other. And everybody is just out here like the wild, wild West bro. People is out here like the wild, wild West. Nobody got no respect for two armed robbers who attacked a convenience store owner. Yeah. The men were caught on camera running away with a cash register after leaving the owner bleeding inside his store.

It happened early this morning at the harvest food store on Yale street in Houston’s independent Heights. Michelle Choi details. What happened? Yeah. Take a look. This spot right here inside harvest food is where I’m told one suspect jumped over the counter. The other person got inside through that glass door. The store manager also showed me these two zip ties. She says the robbers brought in. See, they jumped in through that’s why you got to keep the glass clothes. You can’t not just not, you can’t even not have the glass at all.

When you got the glass, you got to keep the glass closed right now. The bulletproof glasses to protect you from people running in doors, lot glass clothes. You got to make sure everything is straight. You see them red bulls right there in the front. You see them red bulls right there. Right there. Let me tell you what that is. That’s extra protection. I taught you something new today. Didn’t I? That’s extra. You see the cans and the goods and stuff up front. Y’all think that there’s extra storage. That’s not extra storage. That is somebody is shooting.

You got the extra protection because the bulletproof glass only go up here. It’s from waste up. It’s not going down. It’s extra protection. So if you shooting, you got to shoot the cans and it got to go through the wood in order for it to come through. That’s extra protection. A lot of people not familiar with that. You ain’t know that black beauty, did you? You ain’t know that black beauty, did you? Yeah, that’s extra protection. It’s a makeshift bulletproof bulletproof and area over there. I can’t give them all the game, Desiree.

I can’t give them all the game. This is Hood Logic 101. This is Hood Logic 101. Extra. He believes they were going to use it to tie up the owner, but never used it because things quickly escalated. Surveillance video from the vape shop next door shows the two suspects printing away, one with the store’s cash register tucked under his arm. According to HPD, this happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday when two men wearing masks came in armed and pistol with the store owner who was working alone at the time. I spoke with him by phone earlier today.

Still recovering from his injuries, Muhammad told me the suspects hit him in the face multiple times and even fired three shots. He was later rushed to the hospital, needing nearly 10 stitches to his head. Muhammad said the men got away with about $3,000 in cash, cell phones, and even packed cigarettes before taking off in a red truck park nearby. Among those shaken by the news, his friend, Bobby Harris, who rushed out here and shared the video. When you heard about what happened to him last night, what was going through your mind? Bobby says Muhammad has run this food store for more than 30 years and his friend doesn’t deserve this.

He’s a great guy, a great businessman in the community. He helps a lot of people. They do a lot for the community. Both Bobby and Muhammad tell me crime isn’t common here, so they’re both shocked. They’re now hopeful the suspects will be caught soon. You know, today we’re just trying to feed our family and go home safely. In the meantime, Harris says they’ll be tightening up security and come together. We all gotta stick together. What is that? So wait a minute. They knew what they was doing. They knew what they was doing.

Ain’t nobody crazy. Y’all see what I see? They gonna act like they showing a security camera, but in reality, we know what’s going on. They got the ruby rabbit up there. They got the mighty metallic wand right there. Get the hell out of here, bro. They knew what they was doing. See, I’m good. I got the highs. I can see things. Stuff when everybody just glanced over it, I’m able to spot certain things. Okay. All right. I see what y’all got up there. I see what y’all got up there. They thought that they was going to let that slide through.

See, y’all got a, we used to call these, uh, in the video games, these was, um, what was they called in the video games? East, Easter eggs. Yeah. We used to, uh, it’s a back massager. Nah, that ain’t no back massager. That ain’t no, but a ruby rabbit. I don’t look at that as a back massager. We used to call these Easter eggs inside of the video games, where it will be certain things that the developer put in there. The developer put in there are certain things for you to be able to catch.

Yep. We call them East pigs, but, uh, crime, crime is out of control everywhere. [tr:trw].
