Summary

➡ The Guns & Gadgets 2nd Amendment News channel talks about how the U.S. Department of Justice is planning to merge the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) by October 1st. This move could drastically change how firearm laws are enforced. Many, including ATF leadership and retired officers from both agencies, believe this merger is a bad idea due to the different missions and rules of the two agencies. The Department of Justice has not publicly commented on the plan.

Guys, we need to talk about what I think is the biggest threat facing the Second Amendment that is not a red flag law. And it’s something that not a lot of people are even talking about, let alone do something about. Because it’s completely avoidable, yet it is steamrolling toward the finish line of actually happening. And let’s talk about it here. Hey everybody, this is Jared from Guns and Gadgets, your premier source for Second Amendment news and updates that the mainstream media refuses to cover. Today I’m going to break down a quiet but massive move from the Trump Department of Justice that could reshape federal firearms enforcement as we know it.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the ATF, and the Drug Enforcement Agency, the DEA, two agencies with very different missions, could be merged into one another by October 1st. And I’ve talked about this as a possibility, but now it appears as it’s happening. ATF will be merged with DEA. And folks, this is no small reorganization. This could be the Trojan horse that radically transforms the way our government enforces firearm laws, and not in a good way by any stretch of the imagination. Before I dive into the chaos behind the scenes at ATF and what this means for our gun owners, I want to thank today’s sponsors, Sonoran Desert Institute.

If you’re ready to turn your passion for firearms into a career, whether it’s full time or a side gig, Sonoran Desert Institute offers accredited online degrees and certifications in firearms technology and much more. Check them out at sdi.edu slash gng. Link is down below. Thanks to SDI for being a sponsor of the channel. And let’s dig into this. So here’s what we know, or more accurately, what’s been leaked out thanks to my friend, the gun writer, Lee Williams, and a few other folks in the industry. Now, last month, both the ATF and the DEA were quietly notified that the Department of Justice plans to merge them into a single agency.

I did a video on that. I’ll float it above. I don’t think enough people saw that. And I don’t think enough people shared that because here we are. Now, it’s being kept hush hush for now, but internal sources say this could go into effect as soon as October 1st. Now, there’s a reason they’re not putting out press releases or holding press conferences. This is a powder keg. This could be really, really bad. I mean, think of it in the size of the DEA and their their tactical units, their SWAT team. It is much bigger and much better funded than the ATF.

And even internally, ATF leadership is scrambling, trying to push back and convince the DOJ that this is a terrible idea. Why? Because merging two federal law enforcement bodies, one focused on firearms and explosives and supposedly alcohol and tobacco, and the other on drug enforcement with vastly different missions, vastly different rules and oversight structures, is a logistical and constitutional nightmare. John J.C. Clark from FFL Consultants, a former law enforcement officer and a compliance expert, put it bluntly. ATF leadership is trying to fight this and convince everyone it’s not a good idea. Clark’s group trains thousands of FFLs.

They’re working hand in hand with ATF, especially on compliance. So if he’s saying the alarm bells are going off, we should believe him. Even retirees from both agencies, ATF and DEA, want nothing to do with this. According to Clark, anybody that’s retired has said they’re so happy that they retired. Now that says a lot. Even when people who used to wear the badge don’t want to imagine how this merger would function, we should be paying close attention. And when reporters reached out to get confirmation, ATF and DEA both refused to speak. Their exact reply was, quote, refer to the DOJ end quote.

And guess what? The DOJ stayed silent too. No comment, radio silence. Why? Well, maybe because they don’t want us talking about it until it’s too late. But now let’s talk brass tacks. What does this mean for you, the law abiding gun owner? Well, according to gun owners of America, this is nothing short of a dangerous Trojan horse. And GOA hit the nail on the head. And let’s be clear, merging these agencies does not abolish ATF, which is what we want. It potentially gives them more power, broader authority, and less oversight. If the firearm enforcement structure gets absorbed into a hybrid narcotics criminal agency, it could mean more aggressive crackdowns, fewer protections for due process, and a bigger distance between you and our constitutional rights.

GOA is right to be alarmed. And so are we. During an interview with Cam Edwards, Larry Keane, one of the top lawyers over at the National Shooting Sports Foundation, said this move is the wrong approach. He said, what we need is structural reform of ATF, not a merger with DEA. The firearms industry wants compliance. It wants to keep guns out of criminal hands. But the agencies need to be functional and fair. Actually, they both need to be abolished. Not clunky, confused, and corrupted by overreach. Now, Clark from FFL Consultants agrees. He spent years building partnerships with ATF field offices, educating FFLs, and maintaining open lines of communication.

But now, he’s worried it all could vanish overnight. Any change of this magnitude could cause confusion or anarchy. That’s his quote, and that’s no exaggeration. Imagine trying to teach thousands of gun dealers across the country a new set of compliance standards written by a merged agency that doesn’t even understand the gun world. And let’s not forget, the Biden administration’s ATF was the most aggressive that we’ve ever seen. Between the zero-tolerance policies for FFLs, the pistol brace rule, incarcerating people for drawings on a metal card, and the reclassification of force reset triggers, just to name a few, the ATF has operated as a tool of political enforcement.

Clark made it clear that under Biden, although ATF agents may not have agreed with the administration’s policies, it was prudent to follow them or they’d be out of the job. Now, that’s his quote, and I agrees right. That’s not how a constitutional republic is supposed to function. And everyone in those agencies should not only be ashamed of doing that, I’m just doing my job, where do we hear that before, but they should be charged, just like the same people who said that during the World War II. Now, this merger would further entrench that culture of fear and political obedience within a bigger, more chaotic agency.

So what’s next? Guys, if this merger is to happen legally, it would require congressional approval. But if they try to do it through the internal DOJ reshuffling or executive fiat, then we’ve got a serious constitutional problem, and this is where you come in. Gun owners need to flood their representatives’ inboxes and phone lines. Again, another issue, I know, yes. But ask them directly these things. Number one, do you support the merger of ATF and DEA? Number two, will you introduce legislation to block this merger? Number three, will you hold hearings to investigate who’s behind this back door scheme? Guys, the clock is ticking.

October 1st is only a few months away. And this merger could be one of the most underreported threats to our Second Amendment rights in years.
