Certainly conservative groups don’t get that sort of money from the American government. Most of them wouldn’t take it. Just in principle. But it’s still a big issue. And President Trump has done more than any other president. Once again, historic work. The media criticizes it for him. Excuse me. The media criticizes him for it, but taxpayers should applaud him for it. Because I don’t know, even if you’re a lib, why would you want tax money just going to someone for political advocacy? I mean, can’t we agree that’s not appropriate? So we sued the State Department on kind of a particularly nasty iteration of this, which is a lawsuit for records on contracts, grants, and communications with several left-wing European nongovernmental organizations.
We filed the lawsuit after the agency refused to respond to a November 2025 request for all contracts and grant agreements from January 2016 to November 2025. So we’re asking for the last eight years of contracts connected to the organization’s free courts, the Civil Liberties Union for Europe, demo crisis or demo crisis, and the Hungarian Environmental Partnership Foundation. We have the Hungarian name for that group there, but I’m not going to have all you Hungarians laugh at me as I try to pronounce it. According to the Open Society Foundation’s website, which is the Soros Foundation, the Free Courts Foundation received a $130,000 grant from them in 2023.
The organization lists the quasi-governmental National Endowment for Democracy as a partner organization on its website. The Polish lawyer who founded Free Courts is on the board of demo crisis, which is founded in 2023 and is an umbrella organization of other nongovernmental organizations in Israel, Poland, and Hungary. The Civil Liberties Union for Europe, Liberty’s EU, which has spun off from the Open Society Foundation’s directly received approximately 40 percent of its funding from the organization. Liberty’s EU has been aggressive in its campaign against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The left hates Orban because he doesn’t want left-wing communists running his country and destroying its basic freedoms and liberty.
The Hungarian Environmental Partnership received $306,000 from Open Society Foundations between 2017 and 2022. The U.S. Free Media Grant Program gave money, it looks like, to that entity. And earlier this year, a report from U.S. found that U.S. tax dollars were used to help fund this program. However, the funds mainly went to organizations that are critical of the Hungarian government, which is just typical for the State Department to be involved in. So there’s this umbrella network of groups, all mostly associated both directly and indirectly with the George Soros operations. We want the full details of any U.S.
government funding in partnership with these Soros-affiliated groups. Americans deserve to know if their hard-earned taxpayer dollars are being used to fund foreign left-wing organizations that have a pattern of anti-freedom and anti-American policies. The State Department has failed to provide these records, leaving the public in the dark. Now, hopefully, Judicial Watch will get some justice from the courts and get the attention of the State Department to start producing these records. This is not a huge universe of records. They should be easily accessible. So it’s exceedingly frustrating to have to go to federal court to get a group of documents that should take just a few weeks to look for and release.
Now, we previously sued the Justice Department or the State Department for grants to buy the Biden gang to various Hungarian media entities, and I use media entities quite loosely, as part of their anti-Orban, anti-conservative efforts in Hungary. And in October 2018, we obtained Justice State Department documents showing top Soros representatives in Romania collaborated with the State Department in a program jointly funded, among others, by Soros’ Open Society Foundations and USAID, called the Open Government Partnership. So do you think we should be jointly operating with Soros? I don’t think so. But all of this takes place, and thankfully, President Trump has curtailed a lot of this with his deep state cutbacks, the Doge cutbacks, et cetera.
But we need the full panel play of information and grants granted to these front groups for Soros and these other left-wing groups, because Soros is just, he kind of helps seed these groups, and then he uses, relies on, it’s smart thinking, well, maybe we can get the government to keep them going. And so the EU supports them, the U.S. government supports them. I would suspect other left-wing entities support them, funders. But to the degree tax dollars are involved, we have a right to know. Additional documents uncovered by Judicial Watch in October 2018 also show that USAID funding for Soros’s left-wing nonprofit organizations in Albania was taking place.
The documents deal primarily with the activities of Soros’s top operative there, the director of the Open Society Foundation, Albania, who was actively engaged in channeling funding to what Erban called Soros’s mercenary army. The documents show U.S. grant money flowing through nongovernmental organizations that profess to promote civil society, while in fact, they were just attacking traditional pro-American groups, governments, and policies. And, you know, it’s, again, time and time again, Judicial Watch count. This is why they hate you. Soros’s people hate us, because we’ve exposed this wandering operation that benefited Soros-affiliated organizations, partnerships, in Europe.
Now, you know, when someone like George Soros shows up in Hungary through these groups or in Albania through these groups, these are small countries, relatively speaking. They don’t need to spend a lot of money in order to have an impact in those countries. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want anything going to anything associated with George Soros or any of these groups that promote these anti-American leftist agendas. So I’m hoping with this lawsuit gets the administration’s attention and we start getting these documents about this Soros-connected funding as quickly as possible.
