Summary

➡ Sig Sauer, a gun manufacturer, is suing the Oregon Police Academy for banning their P320 pistol from training sessions due to safety concerns. Despite no recorded incidents in Oregon, the ban was implemented following national reports of the gun firing without the trigger being pulled. Sig Sauer argues that the ban is unnecessary and damaging to their reputation. This lawsuit is part of a larger trend, with similar bans and legal actions occurring nationwide.

I am Jared and today we’re going to dive into a hot button legal dispute. Sig Sauer is suing the police again. This time the Oregon Police Academy over their decision to ban the P320 pistol from training sessions. Let’s break down what’s happening and why it matters. Blackout Coffee, wake up like a patriot. All right, let’s get into this one. In June of this year, 2025, the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training officially banned all variants of the Sig Sauer P320 from use in its facilities statewide. The decision, effective June 16th, came after growing national safety concerns tied to reports of uncomanded discharges, instances where the P320 allegedly fired without the trigger being pulled, even though no such incidents had been recorded within Oregon itself. In response, Sig Sauer filed a lawsuit against the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training arguing that the ban is unnecessary, unprecedented, not well-grounded in fact or law, and harmful to Sig Sauer.

I don’t know but unprecedented because Washington state did the same thing. Now they’re also seeking Sig, that is, to block the academy’s executive director from making public statements about the P320. Why? The P320 has been at the center of over 100 lawsuits alleging safety defects. Other agencies, including Washington, have similarly banned the pistol from training use, prompting comparable legal actions. In fact, Sig even made a post asking people to dime out instructors or ranges that have banned the 320 as well so that they could call those ranges and instructors and give them the real truth.

Now the legal battle adds to a broader trend as seen in a recent federal appeals court ruling where a lawsuit by an ICE officer, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, who was injured by an accidental allegedly injured by an accidental P320 discharge, was revived, arguing that expert testimony on design flaws should not have been excluded. It’s not just Oregon. Here’s what’s been happening with the P320 nationwide. Washington State Police Academy, like I mentioned, faced a similar ban and a similar lawsuit from Sig challenging their decision over safety. ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in July of 2025, ICE issued a memo discontinuing all P320 models for agent use and have gone on now to replace those with Glock 19 MOS versions.

Now Air Force Global Strike Command, they paused the M18 variant after the fatal incident of an airman ordering inspections and shifting to alternate weaponry as well. IDPA, the International Defensive Pistol Association banned the 320 from competition venues during mountain safety concerns as well. What’s on deck? Well here, number one, we have court proceedings in Oregon which could set a precedent for statewide bans. It’s one of those things like Sig is arguing, at least in the Washington one, that violating the Second Amendment by banning the gun and that forcing departments to go to other guns, at least in the training academies, is an unnecessary cost to the agencies and thus the taxpayers.

If I’ve said this all along for years, if there is an issue, it needs to be fixed, it needs to be addressed. If there’s not an issue, then there’s not an issue, but I don’t know, you tell me. Number two is the expert testimony on the 320’s safety. Will courts allow it as with the ICE related case? That’s going to be a big one too. The policy will have ripple effects. Other states may re-evaluate use of the P320 based on Oregon’s outcome. I’ve talked to a couple different cops after I did the video about Washington and they’ve said their academy had banned products X, Y, or Z over safety concerns and it was okay then, but if it’s a Sig, it’s not okay.

I don’t know, you tell me. And if Sig Sauer wins here, it could curb future bans and if they lose, the 320 may increasingly fall out of favor in training environments. That’s a compelling mix of public safety concerns and corporate pushback. The P320 controversy isn’t just about hardware, it’s about trust, liability, and how we hold manufacturers accountable if there is an actual issue that they know about. Guys, until we see each other again, be safe, stay vigilant, and carry a gun to keep you, your friends, your family, your community safe. Be the sentinel that liberty demands because there’s far too many people who want us removed. I’ll see you in the next one. Take care. [tr:trw].
