The developments come as President Donald Trump this afternoon promised to send troops into Chicago. 12 News Political Director Matt Smith tonight, with the union president and mayor, strongly responding. Tonight, the dramatic videos of 15 so-called street takeovers in Milwaukee over the weekend, now feeling an intensifying political debate surrounding National Guard troops in U.S. cities. At this point, though, you would welcome National Guard here in Milwaukee. I would. Alex Aiella, president of the Milwaukee Police Union with us Tuesday.

I didn’t know that it was 15. I didn’t know that it was 15. At all. And he’s planning to reach out to President Trump in the coming days to request and welcome National Guard help, citing the weekend street takeovers, officer shortages and the ongoing contract dispute with the city. We have all these incidents that are out of control. We don’t have the staffing for it. I’m sure that the National Guard would do a great job in helping us out. What would they do, ideally? You know, you can put out some security checkpoints. You have them walking around.

They’re visible. So for me, if you want to bring me out from the National Guard, I’ll take it. Do we have to do it? No, we don’t. The mayor has the power to fully staff the police department to settle that contract. The debate reaching a political flashpoint. President Trump Tuesday promising to send troops to Chicago and Vice President J.D. Vance with us Thursday in La Crosse. Would the administration consider ever coming into a city like Milwaukee? Well, again, we want to be invited in Milwaukee. I hope the mayor of Milwaukee gets some common sense and actually fights for her residence for a change or his residence for a change.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson with us this afternoon. I did see the MP president saying that he would welcome the National Guard to Milwaukee, which I thought was pretty peculiar and pretty infuriating at the same time. Why do I say that? I say because in my office just a few months ago, he came and he sat down and he was with a bunch of folks and he was asking me and they were asking me what we could do in order to make sure that ICE and immigration were not clamping down on people at Mexican Fiesta.

So I don’t understand why he’s interested in bringing in federal troops now, bringing in the federal government now when he was against it just before. Matt is joining us live in the newsroom. The governor today also pushed back at any talk of National Guard troops. The end of this morning saying, quote, we can handle this ourselves in the state of Wisconsin. Meantime, Republican Congressman Scott Fitzgerald also saying Sunday on up front, National Guard troops in Milwaukee are not needed. So, all right, so let me ask a question because this is a tale between two entities, right? If it doesn’t cost you anything, if it doesn’t cost you anything, to have the Trump administration help you get some control in your own city, because I didn’t even know that it was 15.

I didn’t know that it was 15 side shows happening. I only had to know about one or two or something like that when I had seen it the other day. I didn’t know that it was 15 at all. So if the police union rep, the police union president says, listen, we’re welcoming the president of the United States of America coming in and helping because we actually have a staff shortage. Why are the politicians thinking differently versus the people that’s actually on the ground? If the police union is saying or the president of the police union is saying, listen, we got a staff shortage and it seems like all of the good police officers went out to the suburbs.

Tasha, it seemed like all of the good police officers got their experience in the city, when got recruited to either the state police or the suburbs and they went into other places. Almost every city that has crazy stuff going on has a shortage of police officers. And it seems like the shortage comes from budget. So what I’m basically seeing is Milwaukee, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, all of these places have a shortage of police officers. They’re short hundreds, if not thousands of police officers. So if the police themselves are saying, listen, there will be a welcome sight.

I think it’s the politicians that not only is finessing the people, but the politicians are also not willing to be embarrassed because they don’t want to seem like they’re not doing a good job. It’s funny because I was looking at Mayor Bowser over there in D.C. And Mayor Bowser was just thanking Trump. But then at the same time, I just seen Mayor Bowser allegedly, if I’m not mistaken, file for the National Guard to be removed after 30 days immediately, right after they thank Trump about stopping crime. So which one is it? Do you actually want to stop crime or no? Let me see if I can look this up.

Washington. D.C. National Guard lawsuit. Deployment extension. Lower crime in D.C. I don’t know. I have to I have to find it because I thought it was something that said that they were suing to try to stop the National Guard from continuing to stay in D.C., even after the crime. And maybe something that I just seen. I don’t know. I have no idea. D.C. Attorney General. Maybe it wasn’t the mayor’s attorney general. Yeah, it was an attorney general. Yeah. Latest wrinkle when it comes to the National Guard in the district and where things stand now, because what we have now is D.C.

This is a copy of it that we have right here in the Fox five newsroom, a 34 page lawsuit essentially challenging that the National Guard can be here in Washington, D.C. So this is a filed the lawsuit. His name’s just about everybody you can imagine in this from the District of Columbia versus Donald J. Trump, the Department of Defense, the Defense Secretary, the U.S. Army, the Secretary of the Army, the Department of Justice, the Attorney General, the U.S. Marshal’s Office and the director of the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

So what are they saying? What are they arguing? Well, there’s 115 points that are made in it, but I’ll summarize it by saying this. At the crux of this is essentially two things. One, the challenge of home rule, they are saying that the White House is essentially using the military in an illegal manner to conduct local law enforcement. These people don’t want crime to stop, bro. They don’t want crime to stop. That’s not even a thing. They don’t want crime to stop. They’re not trying to actually do anything to change the narrative or the mind.

They don’t want any of that type of stuff, bro. They just want to continue to leave things like it is, and they want to continue to rip off consumers and the people that, you know, pay their taxes and all of that stuff. They’re not really trying to stop crime over there in D.C., bro. Let me see something. It was, um, chain knocked over, scooter, and 90 cut. Oh, this is one I want to share with y’all. Check this out, y’all. Just one of nearly 100 cars the chaos divers discovered in the Chicago River. It’s not uncommon for us to find vehicles.

Heck, that’s what we do when they started their search at the Richard J. Daily boat launch near 31st and Western last week. They didn’t find just one or two vehicles, but they kept calming the water, ultimately logging dozens. A lot of these are in piles. We have three piles that are ranging anywhere from 12 to 19 cars in one spot. The independent dive team uses sonar technology to solve missing persons and cold cases. Their goal to bring closure to families. We are a little bit more interested in those cars. That’s kind of the one off where it’s just one vehicle by itself because that’s going to be more indicative of an accident or even self harm or foul play.

In this case, Lindsay Buick says their focus is on the disappearance of The Andrews had just attended a cocktail party at the Sheridan, which at the time was on Michigan Avenue. Missing persons reports say they’d both been drinking, but Edwards still tried to drive home to Arlington Heights. And he had actually crashed into the parking garage door. And then it’s believed that he went southbound in the northbound lanes leaving the hotel that night, which would have put them going into the Chicago River. Buick says their yellow 1969 Oldsmobile has yet to surface.

So the fact that their vehicle’s never been found, they’re usually often in the woods or in the water. Buick and chaos divers founder Jacob Grubbs, along with Derek Longos of Derek’s Dive Recovery Service, are sharing their findings with police. So far they’ve cleared 75 cars, meaning they are not tied to the Andrews cold case. And from what divers can gather, there are no human remains inside. That’s a… What is that? That’s a Nissan Maxima, if I’m not mistaken. Is that a Nissan Maxima? That’s a fairly new car. Let me see.

Yep, yep. All day. Now, the car that was pulled from the rear, that river today, was actually impeding boat traffic. That’s why CPD took it out. Chaos divers still have a lot more work to do to clear the rest of the vehicles they found.

We’re told they will be here through at least this Friday. I bet you it’s well over 250 cars down there. I bet you it’s well over 250 cars down there, bro. Easy, easy. And I guarantee you with some bodies in them cars, too. Guarantee you with some bodies in them cars. And what is that, the Chicago River? Man, listen. If they just now started to pull cars out, and the only reason that they’re pulling the cars out is because they say the only reason that they thought to start pulling the cars out was because a boat using sonar, it would have actually prevented them from getting through because the bottom of the boat probably was going to be dragging on it.

Man, that’s crazy. Yep, it could be. It’s probably a combination of both of all. Insurance fraud, dumping some bodies, getting rid of cars that you don’t want and all of that stuff. It’s probably a whole lot of reasons why it’s a bunch of cars out there. But honestly, it just seems like… Man, look, bro. Be careful. That’s all I’m going to say. Just be careful out here. Be careful in these streets. Don’t find yourself in a negative situation or a negative disposition at all. Be very, very… You said your money is on insurance fraud? Making a disappear inside of the river? There’s probably a lot of that, too.

I wouldn’t doubt it. But it’s a lot of stuff I’ve funded here. You would be surprised how many bodies is in these rivers and in these bodies of water. You would be surprised how many bodies are in the rivers, what you would find. You know where all of the crime is, where you can solve 90% of the crime and whatever respective body of water. Rivers, lakes, oceans, everywhere. So Lake Michigan probably got thousands and thousands of what? Bodies or cars or both? Guns? Oh, man. Man. Man, it’s probably a thousand guns up under there.

But it is, man. It just seems like there’s so much crime happening right now. I’m about to just lock my doors, bro. I’m about to stay in the house, work on my businesses, run up a bag, stack my money, and just stay out of the mix, bro. Stay out of the mix. [tr:trw].
