Summary

➡ The JailBreak Overlander channel talks about David, a youth pastor, who experienced a tragic loss when his wife’s family was swept away by a river. He believes more psychological support is needed for those dealing with such tragedies. He also expresses concern about the accuracy of reported missing persons numbers, suggesting they are much higher. He criticizes the media for not covering the full extent of the tragedy and the government for their inadequate response, including late evacuation orders and blocking supplies.

The youth pastor at our church, David, he lost his wife, but his wife’s brother and his father, who was an invalid, they actually lived right down here in a trailer that where the river totally washed and swept them away. They were stuck in their house for seven and a half hours while he held his invalid father up in chest-deep water until they were finally rescued. It’s sad to see them when they come in, because when they do come in, it’s like they’re kind of just blank. I think that there needs to be more psychological help for people that’s dealing with everything that’s happened.

Yeah, for four or five days I was trying to run up here and check on Richard, one of our church members, to make sure he was alright. And I kept driving by this one area that I found out, like four or five days later, that they found when the dive team had actually come in and they found a van with a mother and four little children, you know, up underneath the water. And so, you know, it makes everybody realize that, you know, if you’ve got your life and you’ve got your family, everything here on earth is temporary.

So, you know, stuff can be replaced, but human life can’t. And there was a lot of people that lost their lives and their loved ones. I’ve heard reports that thousands are missing. Is that true, do you think? I think it is. I definitely think it’s true. The numbers are not correct, because there’s been too many people that I’ve got several military guys that I know that was going around with Savage and looking for, you know, bodies. And, you know, they were already, look, they said that just in one area was anywhere from 20 to 600 bodies in just one area.

So look how many areas it’s here. So it’s devastating, actually. Then why do you think the media isn’t covering this? We’re not seeing this. I would say it’s just like part of how life’s been going. Media only puts out there what they want us to know. They don’t want the truth. They don’t deal with truth anymore. And I mean, the truth needs to be, you know, known by everybody, everywhere. Because they’ve not, you know, our government at the time has not, you know, done some of the things that they should have done. A lot of the supplies that we would send in certain areas, FEMA and the National Guard would actually stop the supplies and turn them away.

And then we would have to bring them here. And then we would send them back out to be able to get them through. So I was just saying how that they actually, a lot of families that I’ve spoke with, you know, they actually were told to evacuate, but they were told to evacuate way too late. Because by the time they were told to evacuate, the water was already coming into their homes. And I mean, there was a mother that had children that was getting ready for school. And then the one son was like, hey, mom, the water’s in the yard.

And then by the time she was still doing what she was doing, the water was already in her house. And then it was her trying to rescue and save her kids. When do you think the dam broke? They still have not said whether it broke or whether it, because there’s somebody that’s been up there and he was military. He said that he’s seen big pieces of the, you know, big chunk of the dam. So apparently they said that the doors malfunctioned and they couldn’t get them to close. And so it started dumping and that massive amount of water, you know, it went from there to so people were actually driving trying to get away.

And then that’s why there was so many cars swept away because they were trying to evacuate. But they didn’t get time to evacuate. So they lost their lives. A lot of people won’t ever be found. There was an encampment down at Bleachery Road that had probably 60 encamped homeless people on the river. And that’s gone. And I mean, just from the military buddy of mine, Eddie Novak. He’s a Purple Heart soldier from Afghanistan. He was going around with Savage finding bodies. And the stories he told me was heartbreaking. And I mean, they’re still finding them, but the reality is they’re not going to find a lot of bodies.

So y’all pray for our state, Swannanoa, you know. And if there’s anybody out there that wants to donate, please help us help the community and all the surrounding communities. So thousands of people missing, that’s more than 9-11. And they’re not talking about this. This is the first time in American history since 9-11 where this amount of people have died. It’s like a century ago, there were water levels that were close to comparing to over 20 feet in Asheville during 1917. This was way bigger. And I mean, if you go down on Swannanoa and you see how little the river is and you see the banks, you’ve seen them down there.

The water level? Okay, that’s what it normally was. And then if you look on your left, you’ll see the buildings. It was at the top of Carpet City or whatever right there on the left. I mean, somebody had videos showing that the water, that’s like 50. I mean, you know what I’m saying, that’s like 50 feet, not really 30 feet. Just, you know, depending on what area you’re at, depending on how high it went. And it just, it’s devastating. How can people help you guys? If anyone would like to send donations of financial help is a big help.

We actually feed all of our community. We actually feed all the workers, anybody that’s using their equipment, taking their time because it’s the hardworking men and women that have come from all over the states, which has been a godsend. And they’re the true heroes that’s helped us get people and families off of their mountains, be able to get food, to be able to get water. So, you know, it’s not our government. It’s not all of them. It’s actual people like you and other people that care enough to take their time from their schedules. [tr:trw].
