He emphasizes the organization’s role in educating attendees about issues like mask mandates and vaccinations. The speaker also discusses his role as a sheriff in a sparsely populated area, where his duties often involve helping the community rather than dealing with crime.

Transcript

Okay, well tell us, now that we reviewed your involvement with us, tell us what, you started to say how impressed you were with the conference in Virginia. What have you taken and what have you learned from the speakers and the other presenters at our conferences over the years? What has really impressed you? What have you taken home with you? Well, when I’ve been to these things there, the reception is amazing. When you get there, they’re ready to teach. Not only are you being taught, but you get examples how to apply these things and things such as the mask mandate, the vaccination and all these things here that were illegally shoved down people’s throats and stuff.

And you know, when you’re a small town kid like myself, you need the training. You need to go out there and learn and see the bigger picture. And the organization has really opened my eyes to how nasty it is out there, how much politics. And it’s just crazy out there. One thing I’d say about the organization, the networking, to meet these sheriffs, to grab your notepad and write down or get a business card to reach out to a sheriff. Hey, what are you doing with this? Or, you know, having that network of support that you’re not, we’re certainly not alone out there.

You know, I think the numbers are growing and I look forward to that. I’ve had two officers of mine that have went with me to your conventions. And to me, when I bring them back, it’s amazing to see their excitement and how simple it is to enforce our laws because it was never meant for the government to get involved in any of our business. And I always tell my guys, don’t get involved with anybody unless you have to. Just let them live. You know, so much overreach. Yeah, good advice. Yeah, really. And protecting our people from the overreach of government is kind of a key component to what we teach.

You know, leave people alone. People have a right to be left alone. And that’s what we want to have. I mean, government leaving me alone, isn’t that the definition of liberty? Yeah, it’s simple. Yeah, the simplicity of it sometimes. Yeah, it gets crazy. So do you have any questions for Sheriff Eberly? Well, you know, always have questions. I know. He’s sitting in a county that’s 1200 square miles. And I was looking at the population. And if you don’t count the 1500 or so that’s in his town, you got like two people per square mile.

And it looks like what is it from from down there near Scranton all the way over to Montana? Is that like 200 miles? Oh, no, not quite that big. It’s probably from here to town is 40 miles. Well, less than 30, 30 miles to the Montana line to the west, 16 miles south to South Dakota. And then my next county over is probably about 40 miles to the county seat. Like Adam County or the sheriff to the north up there. He’s Slope, 12 miles, 12 miles to the north. And then that’s the guy that was telling you he’s the sheriff for the entire county and the only person run for law enforcement there.

Right. Well, it seems like you’re not going to have a whole lot of problem with crime there. I mean, your job’s just going to be basically to go around and help people out, you know, figure out if you can jump into a situation and fix it relatively easy. Maybe with what I look at pictures, there are a lot of cattle raising in the vicinity and farming and that sort of thing. So just being friendly, you mentioned that you wanted to put a sheriff down in Scranton. Is that because it’s got it doesn’t appear to have a lot of population there.

What’s going on down there? Nothing. You know, I think all sheriffs will be asked the question. We want a deputy in our community. We want a law enforcement officer. And I was just blessed and lucky enough that the guy hired. He was a former school teacher over there. Fabulous, brilliant guy. And he lived there. So it was just an easy win for me to have somebody in town over. That’s always a question is when you’re running, are you going to put deputies in our communities? Well, one of my communities is like, that gives her about 120.

Well, when you come with a family, nobody wants to go into these little tiny towns. You know, Walmart for me is an hour and a half away. Right. And so they’re looking for more, you know, for their family and housing and I mean, those are factors. Right. So do you I mean, Sheriff Mack alluded to the crime that may be caused by the immigrants, which I don’t imagine you have that much. But do you still have pretty low crime rates in general, which is regular stuff, burglaries, fights, you know, domestic violence, that sort of thing? Yeah, it’s really pretty safe here.

I mean, as some I always like to call it my Mayberry, which I’m okay with that. You know, I do have you have me to us Highway 12 through here and US Highway 85, which runs up to the interstate. So there are narcotics going north and money goes seems to go south. So we’re we have stuff going through here. Right. And we try and a lot of time, it’s sure nice to let it go through, you know, rather than poison us here. But we do our best. We’ve got a canine here. So we’re out there trying to get it before it gets too far.

Right. Do you have any demand for a posse? Has anyone approached you to put together a posse? No, I never have. I got beat up from I don’t remember who it was with Sheriff Mack and some time back that I made the comment that I would deputize everybody, every single person in my county. And boy, you know, a bunch of liberals in the other end of the stages. Way to go. Way to go, Sheriff. Well, that brings up a question. What do you do about search and rescue? I’m at we’re at a lot of time.

We use the local fire department. They know the area quite well. We know the area quite well. The locals are amazing. If you said I need a four wheeler snowmobile, some type of ATV people are just showing up. I’m really, really blessed to have that. Well, you’re trying to have an unofficial posse. Yes, an unofficial posse. Yeah. When you were younger there, I saw some photos of you with your rifle and you had a horse or you were sitting on some horses. Anyway, do you have horses in your employer? Because you got a lot of open space there.

I don’t have anything. I don’t want anything without a kill switch anymore. I’ve had a horse some time back there. But there are lots and lots of horses in our county. Lots of livestock. That does sound like Mayberry. Yeah, it’s good. I can’t complain. I mean, it’s where I’d like to keep thinking we’re remote, but we’re not. We’re not completely absent of a problem that could come here. And we do our very best. I’ve got a police department here, not I, but we have a police department here as well. And for most sake, you can pretty much leave your doors open.
