This is where we dive into Second Amendment news, American freedom, and what’s really going on behind the scenes. This is one of them. If you’re new here, hit the subscribe button, tap that bell icon, and we’ll jump right into this. Today, we got a wild story coming out of Appalachia that has everything. Politics, state boundaries, frustrated voters, and yeah, Second Amendment rights that are implicated here. So let’s lean in. Real quick, I want to thank the sponsor, CMMG, for always supporting this channel. If you believe in quality precision and protecting your rights, these folks are worth knowing.
Whether you’re looking for 22s or bigger chamberings or just accessories done right with attention to detail, CMMG always delivers their craftsmanship and respect for the Second Amendment show. And as always, purchasing from reliable, top-tier manufacturers helps us ensure safety, accountability, and quality. G&G 10 will make you smile when you’re there, and thank you to CMMG for supporting this kind of conversation on this channel. It means so much to me that you all support the First Amendment, which is supporting and defending the Second Amendment. I love you all over there. All right, imagine your county, your community, saying, we’re not being heard.
And then your state next door, your neighbors saying, hey, come join us. That’s basically what just happened. The state of West Virginia has formally invited 27 counties in the neighboring state of Virginia, plus three additional more from Maryland, to leave their states and become part of West Virginia. Yeah, you heard that right, poaching. A secession by counties style type invitation here. And it brings up serious questions for gun owners, representation, political alignment, rights protections, even state law differences. Because if your state legislature doesn’t have your back, well, what happens to your gun rights? Virginia saw a cycle ago, a governor ago, and they’re about to find out with this governor.
So let’s unpack this here. Here’s the breakdown. In West Virginia, State Senator Chris Rose introduced a resolution to formally invite 27 Virginia counties and three Maryland counties to join West Virginia. Rose is a fourth generation coal miner from Southwest Virginia, so he kind of gets it. He says that folks reached out to him, asking him to help finish the conversation about their votes mattering. And they wanted their voices heard. His reasoning here is the people in those counties feel the political winds in Virginia aren’t working for them. They believe their votes don’t count, so they feel ignored.
So he wants West Virginia to say, come on in, we’ll take you. We’ll give you representation. We’ll give you freedom. But, and this is a big but here, guys and gals, changing state boundaries is not simple. It requires legislation in each state involved and approval by Congress. Virginia’s U.S. Senator Tim Kaine responded with a laugh when asked about it, saying, I wasn’t aware of it, it’s not going to happen. In short, this appears to be more of a symbolic than serious move, but it’s still bringing up debate. Now, why am I covering this here on Guns and Gadgets? Because for gun owners, changes in state governance equal potential changes in gun laws, enforcement and protections.
And unfortunately, Virginia has a very tough four years ahead of it. So join the VCDL of Virginia Citizens Defense League. They’re going to need every single drop of help that they can get. And West Virginia and Virginia have different political cultures. West Virginia tends to lean more pro-gun in many respects than Virginia’s current direction, well, their upcoming direction, in many areas. And if you are in a Virginia county that feels underrepresented, maybe you’re also worried about restrictive gun legislation being pushed down your throats. It’s coming. As of Monday, they’re going to start filing it. Maybe moving to West Virginia might in theory offer stronger representation for your gun rights.
In fact, the governor of West Virginia told people in Virginia, if you don’t like what’s about to happen, come move here. Interesting. Let’s get to the nitty gritty on the mechanics here so that you understand the hurdles. Number one is county consent. The counties in Virginia and Maryland would need to vote or their state legislatures would need to approve their departure. Number two is the Virginia legislature itself. The Commonwealth of Virginia would need to pass a law agreeing to surrender the counties. Guys, what does this all come down to? Money. Money. Your state doesn’t care about you, but they care about your taxes, your income tax, your property tax, your sales tax.
That’s what they care about. They don’t want to give that up. Now, number three, West Virginia, their legislature must agree to admit the new counties as well. And then there’s congressional approval. Under the U.S. Constitution’s Article 4, Section 3, Congress must consent to the change of state boundaries. Then comes the implementation phase. There’s going to be all kinds of issues if this were to happen. It’s not going to happen. But there are issues like transitional governance, taxation, law enforcement, court jurisdictions, gun laws, all kinds of things that have to be ironed out. Like, who’s going to be the new sheriff if it were to happen? Given all that, the chance for the 27 Virginia counties and three counties from Maryland actually switching states is extremely low in the near term.
Virginia’s leadership has already said it’s not going to happen, but here’s the kicker. The resolution may not be about political immediate change. It’s a political signal. Now, sound off below and let me know what you think about this. What are your thoughts on this type of offer by one state to residents of another? Do you think it’s viable if you live in one of the 27 counties? Again, here’s the picture again. You live in one of those 27 counties? Would you like to now be considered West Virginia? Let me know. Let us know down below.
I know many of my viewers are up there in my northern neighbor in Virginia. So let me know what you guys and gals think. Like, would you like that to happen? It comes down to you guys and gals. I mean, ultimately, if you want it to happen, your county could make it happen. But I don’t think the Commonwealth of Virginia is going to let it happen very, very easily. All right, Patriot Nation, I am Jared. This is Guns N’ Gads. A short little snippet today, but it’s news nonetheless. Something different. I thought it was an interesting thing.
I wanted to see how your brains thought if you would like another state to make this offer or whatever. But stay sharp, stay armed, and stay free. Regardless of who your governor is and what laws they sign, don’t give up your rights. Don’t give up your guns. You don’t get your rights from government. They sure as hell can’t take them away. Stay safe, stay armed, stay free. I’ll see you in the next one. Take care. [tr:trw].
