Today we have a returning guest, Devin Nunes. Devin is the CEO of Truth Social and I am very happy to have Devin back on the X22 Report Spotlight. Devin, welcome back to the Spotlight X22. It’s always a pleasure to be on your show. We always have a good time. So I’m, I’m glad to be here right before the holidays. A lot of fun. Yeah, absolutely.
And I, I just wanted to start off with True Social and maybe you can give us an update on, you know, where Truth True Social come from, where you are now, and where you’re going. Well, as you know, we finally became a public company. We talked, I think, quite a bit about that the last couple times I was on the show. But we became a public company basically the second quarter of this year. We had to deal with quite a bit before the election, as you can possibly imagine, because we’re this strange company that we’re a public company that’s built on a mission A mission of free speech to protect people like you and many others.
And so we’re building out that ecosystem. You know, stating the obvious, President Trump winning is really good for our company and you know, puts us, you know, really in the driver’s seat because, you know, before that we were being harassed by every government agency that was out there. We were held up from becoming a public company for multiple years. So I think President Trump winning is obviously a boom for us. And we continue to just focus on the mission of building out the technology stacks that we’re building out. And you know, our goal is to make sure that we keep the Internet open.
Now what does that mean? Well, the big tech companies can shut you down if they want to. You remember Parlor that was basically destroyed. So many of us were either shadow banned or flat out kicked off of the other platforms. I think is you’re, you being one of the biggest ones that was kicked off of YouTube and others. So we’re setting out to build out this ecosystem to make sure that we protect people’s First Amendment rights. And so in order to do that, you have to keep the Internet open. So, you know, we primarily, you know, the first thing we always think of is the technology piece first, then allow creators to come on top of that content.
Whether it’s just somebody who wants to be on True Social and talk to different people, be part of a group. The group function that we have now on True Social is becoming more and more popular. There’s, it’s come like a Reddit feature or if you’re, you know, you can be somebody like, like yourself that puts your shows out on Truth Social. But the, the new app that we have, we call Truth Plus. It’s essentially an OTT app. So think of YouTube TV. This is our own YouTube TV or Fubo or you know, the different Netflix. We are real, really proud of this technology stack that we’ve built because it’s, we believe, one of the only purpose built CDNs.
So it’s a closed loop system meaning that we don’t rely on anyone to deliver the, to deliver the content on either Truth Social or Truth Plus. So if you think of, you know, there’s plenty of news content creators out there, like the Newsmax of the world that got kicked off of DirecTV not long ago. OAN1America News, they’ve been kicked off of virtually every platform. Real America’s Voice, that’s only on a couple platforms. So we wanted to make sure we created a home for them for free speech. Right. To make sure that People that are actually reporting the news can’t get canceled by big woke corporations.
At the same time, we’ll be a home for. We have the ability to have documentaries, films, maybe things that can’t get onto Netflix or Amazon prime will be a home for that, for that content. So our company is, you know, we have almost, I don’t know, 700,000 shareholders. It’s a movement we have. DJT is the brand, the sticker, the ticker symbol is DJT, which is a lot of fun. That’s kind of at the top of the company. And then we have these two great products that are uncancelable technology stacks. And we’re continuing to look at what are those other pillars of the company going to be where people are getting canceled or could get canceled in the future as we build those pillars out.
And then underneath all that we’re focusing on is eventually with Truth plus, it’ll be where you can go on and have a subscription to Truth plus and that will allow us to support all these patriotic companies that are out there that are trying to produce news but can’t get paid by the big woke companies in order to do that. So we’ll have a subscription capability to get like a patriot plan, the ability to launch documentaries, films, that sort of thing that can’t get elsewhere. So that, that part of that subscription process, we have to be very careful because we’ll have to take people’s credit cards.
And you’ll appreciate this, many of those companies that take credit cards are prone to do what? Cancel you? Yes, we’ve seen it happen to conservatives, many Americans for quite often here the last five years. So we’re now, and we’ve announced this publicly in our last quarterly that we’re looking into fintech and how are we going to create a payment processing system so that we can’t get canceled by people who want to do harm to our platform or harm to our customers and users, et cetera. So we’re in the process of analyzing, building that out now. We’re looking, doing different M and A deals that we continue to look at.
Like I said, that was all announced when we announced our quarterly earnings. So that’s what we focus on. That’s kind of a quick update, Dave, as to what we’re, what we’re doing, but it keeps us, it keeps us busy and you know, we’re really proud of the technology stack that we have. If you haven’t, I’m sure most of your listeners and people who watch your show on Rumble are, are on Truth Social. But if you have not downloaded the Truth plus app yet, it’s available everywhere now, except for we’re waiting on approval from Samsung and Roku.
So you can put it on your, on your iPhone, your Android phone, your Google tv, your Apple tv, if you have it. So it’s, and it’s really, really impressive. I mean, of course I’m, you know, I know I’m biased being the CEO of the company, but I’m very excited about this technology because I think it’s, it’s, I don’t think there’s anything that really compares to it. Once we start to add the more and more content, it’s going to be just an amazing way for us to do what keep the Internet open as people cut the cord, cut cable.
We need an OTT platform and that’s what we’ve built. So are you finding any pushback? I know from the very, very beginning when the company went public, there were certain, I guess, characters that were trying to suppress the stock. Are you still seeing that? Are you still having those types of problems? Well, look, I think it’s a little more dangerous for them to do that now. You know, we’ve, we, we’ve actively engaged. When that first happened, there was a lot of shenanigans that happened in the first 90 days of, of our stock being traded. We continue to investigate it.
We’ve notified the sec, we’ve notified all the government agencies that that would matter, have worked closely with, with Congress. Congress continues to, I think, probe and look and ask questions. And you know, it’s kind of interesting. They’ve recently, I would say recently and like in the last, you know, month or so since the election, we haven’t seen too much weird stuff. So, so the way that we knew that there was naked short selling, that’s really issue where shares don’t exist. We knew that was happening because we turned up on this, this list where shares were not being delivered.
So we knew that there had to be. The only logical reason for that is that there was naked short selling going on. So so far, knock on wood, we’ve been off that list now for a while. So we’re happy about that, but we continue to monitor it because we’re the only company in the country really that has virtually no institutional investors. So, you know, we rely on mom and Pop America to own our shares, to own our stock. And you know, having 700,000 roughly shareholders is amazing. And that’s why there’s no company out there that’s like us.
We really are A movement to protect free speech in a public company. We had to fight to do this. I always tell people, President Trump didn’t need a new company, I didn’t need a new job. I was perfectly fine in Congress. But somebody had to do something in order to take on these big woke corporations, in order to keep this Internet open. And that’s why, you know, we had to fight not only to create the technology, but to become public. Fought through, you know, all the shenanigans with the naked short selling. We continue to investigate and now we’re trying to just go around about building our, our business.
So you think the institutional investors, the organizations, they’re not purchasing the stock. Is it because they’re woke companies? Look, I, you know, I mean, they had to buy us because we’re in the Russell, so we, we’re in the Russell index. So we do have a small percentage that are bought that are owned by the institutions. But you know, look, I, I, my preference is, is not to be, Honestly, I’d rather just the more people that have, the more mom and pop Americans that own our stock, I think the better off, you know, we are as a company because we don’t want to be, you know, I’ve seen other companies out there where they’ve, where these people who hold large chunks of your stock then begin to dictate, well, you need to have this type of person on your board or that type of person, you know, woke people on the board.
You know, you need to be, you know, DEI compliant. So those are all things that, you know, don’t interest me too much. And look, right now we have, you know, I just love the fact that we have 700,000 shareholders and we’re building out great technology stacks and we’ll just continue to build this business. I mean, effectively it’s, you know, we’ve only been a startup company now with these two technologies for, you know, think about it, you know, since, since really, since April of this year. I mean, it’s amazing and obviously it helps when you have President of the United States that it’s his primary platform.
Makes a big difference, you know, and I don’t think a lot of people realize that true social, it hasn’t been around that long. But look how much you’ve done with the technology where you implemented the video streaming and everything else. You ramp that up very, very quickly because you started from scratch. It wasn’t like you, you know, you, you bought another company’s technology, brought it over and adapted it to you. You started from scratch, you had to build it from scratch. And actually, I don’t think people really understand that, that this was all done from the ground up to make sure that the, the Deep State players, you know, can’t shut you down.
Just like Parlor, that they were shut down immediately because they were on, I think it was Amazon distributed servers. So I think. Yeah, I think. Well, they had some 30 different companies that cut them off. Yeah, it was really sad day in American history. I still think that’s one of the worst days in American history when that happened. Yeah. When Parlor was just booted off of everything. I just, it’s just thoroughly. It still pisses me off. And also, even, just like you said, I mean, even if you’re going to take subscription, you have to use credit cards and you’re going to accept credit cards.
You also have to be very careful because, I mean, I saw the story with Melania and Baron where they didn’t want to have. They, they weren’t allowing him to open up an account in her bank or something like that. So these people are still out there, they’re still pushing against conservatives where they’re trying to stop them from doing certain things. So I guess you have to be very careful because you don’t want, if you pick a company to run credit cards, you don’t want them shutting you down. And then, you know, you’re, you’re out of luck.
That. That’s exactly right. Which is why, you know, when we look at the fintech piece of our company, it’s important to remember that there’s so many people that get debanked. Yeah. And, you know, so that’s why we’re having to be very thoughtful in, you know, our preference is to own as much of it as we can. It’s not easy, but that’s what we’re, that’s what we’re trying to build. And, you know, nobody’s better than you in terms of, you know, you’re obviously very knowledgeable and currencies and finance. And, you know, we have to take all those, all those concerns that, that people like you understand.
We have to build that into our fintech solution for ultimately, for, for our entire company. So since Trump got on board with Bitcoin, are you guys looking at taking on Bitcoin or having people pay for subscriptions using Bitcoin or any other type of crypto, Cryptocurrency? I mean, look, crypto is a, is going to be part of the future. So as we’re looking at our fintech solution, that has to be Part of it, you know, I think you could make a, you could, you could say maybe five or six. You were, you know, you were obviously ahead of this.
You’ve been on this for a long time about the central banks and the, and inflation. But there’s so many people now that are, that are using crypto that want to have a solution. And so, you know, part of what we have to figure out is we have to make sure we have a home for those folks, too. So it’s part of, it’s part of like, kind of just the big picture that we’re looking at as we continue to build out our technology stack and see what we either need to buy or are there partnerships that we can create with companies that we feel safe about.
Like, for example, Rumble is one of our close partners. We, we do not rely on Rumble for Truth plus our, our streaming company because that’s a, that’s our own CDN that we built. But we do rely on Rumble on Rumble Cloud for Truth Social. So true Social runs on Rumble Cloud. They’re a company similar to ours that’s focused on free speech. And I mean, I think everybody knows this, but I was the one first pick. It was myself and funny animal videos when I was getting screwed by YouTube. I was one of the first guys to get screw screwed by YouTube.
So way back in the day, it was when I found Rumble, they were a small company in Canada and I had to. It was the only place I had for home to put up my little podcast, you know, that I used to. Nothing like your podcast, Dave. Nothing like the X22 report. I just want to change things up now that Trump is picking his different nominees. You work very, very closely with Cash. What do you think? What do you think of Cash coming in as the FBI director? Do you think this is a good move by Trump? Well, I mean, no.
Tell the truth audience all knows this, so. And you know this. But, you know, look, Cash is a, is a, is a close friend of mine. He was a lead investigator on the Russia hoax. He is very qualified. I mean, the. Just another example. They finally came out just this week with Horowitz, another, you know, DOJ investigation that was done by the inspector general. Once again, nothing gets done about it. But as I told people years ago, they were spying on my staff. And lo and behold, what were they doing? We now know they were spying on my staff, Chuck Grassley’s staff.
I mean, this is just totally, totally inexcusable. So I think when you take a look at Cash’s Background that he was. I like the fact that he was, I mean, obviously he was a great investigator because he, he was, you know, instrumental in unraveling the Russia hoax. But if you look at before that, he was a terrorism, terrorism prosecutor at doj, dealt with some very complex cases before that. I think that’s interesting. He was a public defender. So he’s been on the opposite side. So he’s been on the opposite side completely. Then he was a prosecutor, and then he was on the legislative branch side working for the Congress.
Then he went into the executive branch in the White House and in the Department of Defense. So I would argue that, you know, he has the type and breadth of experience that the FBI needs, because we have to, we have to have a. Look, these are not my numbers. These are the fake news numbers that 41% of the people you know have don’t, or only 41% have trust in the FBI, which it’s fake news. So that means it’s probably lower than that. Right. I don’t know how anybody could trust the FBI. What did President Trump say the other day that I think they asked him if he was going to replace Ray, and he just said he broke into my home and then when I nearly got killed and shot, he said that I was hit by shrapnel.
I mean, you can’t have an FBI like that. I mean, it’s just, there’s, there’s too many, you know, crime is on the rise. It’s going to continue to be on the rise with all the people that got into this country illegally. The FBI just needs a complete, just new leadership at the helm. Ship needs to be righted. We need to focus on, on going after criminals, not like political targeting that happened with, you know, my staff back in, this was back, remember, it’s 2017 and 18, that they were doing this. This is not, that’s what, eight years ago? Right.
So what do you make of Ray saying that he’s going to leave before Trump fires him? Well, it was an interesting, it was interesting that, that, that Trump nominated someone when there wasn’t even a vacancy at FBI, but I just don’t see, you know, how the guy can stay. I mean, he should have resigned probably already, but whatever. Yeah. You know, so do you, do you think it’s been, like, too quiet with the, like, with the deep state because, okay, Trump won the election. It was, I, I saw him on the interview. I’m sure you saw him on the interview where they asked, why didn’t they cheat in the 2024 election.
He said it’s too big to rig. Do you think it’s just been, hey, let’s just talk about protecting our wealth right now because time’s running out. Citigroup predicts gold hitting 3,000 by 2025. And remember, there’s always a risk of investment and there’s no guarantee of any kind. Too quiet. Like, we haven’t really seen them do anything because if you go back to 2020, you know, they had, you know, the ballots they, they cheated in the election during that period of time. They had January 6th, right now, we really haven’t seen them do any, like Obama, Hillary, nothing has happened. What’s your take on that? Well, remember, you know, they got their ass kicked so badly that, you know, I think it was, it really was too big to rig. I think that’s their challenge, that, that, you know, President Trump has a mandate.
I think that, you know, it’s going to be, obviously we should have seemed like we should have won a couple more seats in the Senate, should have won more seats in the House. But at this point, I mean, it’s, it’s pretty tough, I think, for people to stand in the way of, you know, and I think they also know that, you know, unlike eight years ago when, when President Trump was first elected, you know, he was a New York business guy and kind of a Hollywood guy, right? He had this show, the Apprentice, and he, and he loved building buildings.
You know, that’s what I always liked about him is, you know, he loves talking about architecture and equipment, big equipment, things that, you know, from my farming background, you know, things that, you know, him and I kind of have in common, right? He, you know, I. Trucks for a different purpose and loaders for a different purpose. But, you know, we can, we can talk about caterpillars and things like that. And he loves to talk about it. So when he went to Washington, he thought, well, this is, you know, you never did he think or did I that you were going to have the FBI and DOJ just, you know, attack him for Eight years, relentlessly.
And now he’s at the point where he just knows all the people, he knows all the players. He knows there’s, you know, and it takes time in politics. I spent so long, much of my life in politics. But, you know, after so much time, you start, you, you’ve seen everything, you know everything, you know all the districts, you know all the players, you know all the bullshit. And I think he’s at that point now. He’s seen it all. Nobody seen more than him in terms of the, what they did to try to keep him out of office.
And now he’s going to have those levers of power and he’s going to need to, you know, it needs to be cleaned up to depoliticize the government so that we can get trust back in the system. I mean, that, that’s the ultimate goal that we all want to see. And President Trump will, I mean, he’s got four years to do it and he’s, I think he feels like that, you know, he was, his life was spared in order to do big things for the country and Lord knows we need it. We have a huge budget deficit.
We have, you know, 10 million people have come into this country illegally, criminals from all over the world, inflation out of control. So there’s a lot that has to be done that I think President Trump is well positioned, positioned to do. And this isn’t like you’re not, this isn’t taken on Trump eight years ago. Like, you know, everybody knows their tricks. So, you know, beware. You know, if you’re going to be corrupting the intelligence agencies or any part of government like Trump’s going to be, I think is going to not going to hold back if he finds malfeasance in these agencies.
So do you think he has enough time to drain the entire swamp? I mean, you’ve been in government, you saw what was there. And I’m sure seeing over these many, many years, people are starting to understand and realize that, yeah, they knew there was corruption there, but now you see it, it’s like it’s really bad. I mean, I think people have seen much more than they ever wanted to see within these last four years of how bad government really is. And you’ve been there. Does he have enough time to drain the swamp? Look, there’s always going to be a swamp, right? Unless you believe in global warming, then maybe there won’t be a swamp, maybe it’ll go away.
But D.C. was built on a swamp. But the swamp, look, swamp will be there. The question Is. And look throughout US History, things are going to ebb and flow, but we have to have a course correction now because things happened in the last eight years that never happened in this country before. So, you know, like we were talking earlier, like the startup of True Social. I mean, that was born because of government corruption, right? But basically government using the technology companies, putting pressure on the woke corporations to then, you know, the left putting pressure, you know, to then cancel people.
You know, we were like a whole new public company was formed and had to fight through that whole process because of what’s happened the last eight years. So, you know, nothing will ever be perfect. But I think that President Trump is in the best position to do more than what anybody has ever done before. And I think you’re seeing that with a lot of the appointments that he’s making, you know, people that are, you know, I just think his appointments, top to bottom this time, seem to be, you know, just. He knows who the bad guys are.
So I think he’s not. I mean, look, there’ll be some, there’ll be some mistakes. There’ll be some jerk that wants to write a book that’ll get fired or what have you. But I think for the most part, he’s. He’s got a lot of really good people that he’s picked so far at the top. And obviously I’m excited about John Ratcliffe, who I work closely with on the Russia hoax. Cash Patel, FBI. John Ratcliffe has been nominated for CIA. And then you have Pam Bondi, who I spend a lot of time in Florida, which as our headquarters.
So, you know, she did a great job as Florida Attorney General. And so she’ll be, I think, great running Attorney General for the United States. So that’s a nice team right there to start to clean up, clean up some of the mess. And what about accountability? I mean, you were up against Adam Schiff and you’re battling, you were battling him through the entire thing where you know he was lying, you were telling the truth, and you’re both reading the same memos. It was just ridiculous. Now he’s in the Senate. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s hard to believe, huh? Yeah.
I mean, are we gonna see California? Like, California, believe it or not, I just, there’s, there’s, you know, I’m still a Californian. My family’s still there. I’m the central part, the agricultural part of California where I grow my. Grow my grapes in the central coast of California. So I’m in kind of the last. I’m like Halfway between LA and San Francisco. So I’m far enough away from a lot of the madness. But the state is being destroyed. And what’s happening is, is that more and more Republicans continue to move out. Why? Because they can’t afford the taxes, they can’t afford the price of gas, they can’t afford the insurance, they can’t.
I mean, just across the board, everything is so much higher there. And so you’re seeing so many Republic Republicans and conservatives, business people, people that retired, they’re moving to states like Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Florida. You see it all the time. So, you know, people ask me, how does a guy like Schiff win? He wins because there’s, you know, we’re hemorrhaging conservatives from the state. And then at the same time, remember, I think they’re still voting in California, right? They just whacked three of our Republicans right before Thanksgiving. You know, they can’t. So the votes are still being counted.
I think, I think all the races are settled now. But what they did a few years ago in California is that they, they gave everybody a ballot. So when you, when I say that, you know, you could say, I don’t want to be registered to vote, the problem is you have to go to the DMV to either get an ID or get a license or what have you get your light, you know, get renewals. And when that happens, the state of California forces you to register. So even if you say, I don’t want to register, they register you as an independent or declined estate, they call it.
Really? Yeah. And then they, after they did, the first thing they did was that we used to have, California used to, used to have a great system. You know, if you go back 10, 12 years ago at 8:00, they would count, they had an absentee system where you could vote ahead of, ahead of time. They count all the absentees. That would be the first numbers that would come at 8 o’clock and then by midnight all the, from all over, they bring the different precincts, they bring. So by midnight you had, you had, you know, nearly all the ballots were counted and you might have had some military ballots that came in after the fact.
So what did they do? They registered every vote. Then they mailed everybody about. So, so think about this. You got millions and million oceans of ballots out there that are, that are out there. And then they did another clever thing, so now everybody has a ballot. And then they did another very clever corrupt thing is they let you go and they let you go and pick up the ballot so, so you can go harvest the ballots and you don’t even have to be an American or a Californian. You can actually be from anywhere in the world and you can go start picking up ballots from people, go knock on the door and say, hey, I’d like to pick up your ballot.
I’m going to take it in for you. So that’s why people ask, how does a guy like Shipwin? It’s because you have an ocean of ballots. God knows how they’re, you know, how many of these are coming in. But even with all that, I will tell you, you know, Trump did very well with young, younger working people, which primarily in California, guess what those are, Those happen to be first and second generation Mexican Americans. So he picked up a lot of votes in California this time. So, and that’s ultimately, you’re not going to flip California until enough people actually wake up and say, I don’t want to be part of this green New scam, as I think you call it.
I don’t want to pay $7 for gasoline. I don’t want to pay the highest electricity rates by far of any other state in the union. You know, eventually people getting hurt in their pocketbook will result in what happened this time, which was a few more people, you know, pretty big number of these kind of younger working people that have to work for a living that voted for Trump. Ultimately that has to translate. There needs to be more and more of them. But there’s, there’s just been a lot of indoctrination between the people that are leaving the state and the indoctrination that’s going on by the, the woke school system there for the last, you know, you know, three decades is a problem.
You know, I was, you know, I was there for two decades fighting it and you know, we slowly just lost it, you know, just lost, you know, slowly went down and down and down. And I’ll tell you, I mean a good example is my little neighborhood that I live in right on the edge of town near where I grew up on a farm. And so I live on the edge of the city in a 20 year old development. But I think about, there’s about 35 homes in that development and I am pretty sure at least, at least I can, I think about 10 people, 10 homes that have moved out of state.
Matter of fact, one of my friends I’ve known a long time, she just retired, moved to Texas, just, she just left last month. Wow. And so, I mean that’s, that’s what’s happening. So Republicans Continue to leave. And, and there’s just too many woke people that I guess are on the. It’s like a, it’s a weird system of the elites, Silicon Valley super rich people who can afford to live in California. Then all the people that they’ve hired in government that you have to kind of, even if you don’t believe in it, you have to kind of vote with it because you, you know, you work for government and then you essentially have all the peasants, you know, because it’s, you know, the, the rest of the people that they’re just praying over and the, you know, the few people that are there to fight.
I mean, it’s tough. I mean, look, the only reason I’m, the only reason I’m there is, you know, I’ve got such a big family that’s there, but also because the, you know, the only place that I can grow my grapes, the way that I want to grow my grapes is in California, you know, because it has some of the best weather where I’m from. You know, 300 different crops grow. So as you know, some of the best wines in, in the world come from California. So I, I’d love to make wine right here in Sarasota. I’d love to have, I’d love to do that.
But Dave, I don’t think you and I would want to drink that wine. No matter how much oak we put in the wine. I don’t think you’d want to drink wine that I would make in Sarasota, Florida. I mean, since, since you’re talking about the wine you did come at last time you were on, we were talking about how we were going to add oak, French oak to your wine, and you finally produced the wine with French oak. And I got to taste it. And actually, I have to say it’s, it’s actually very, very good. And I, I think people are really going to be surprised.
And this is your reserve, by the way. You don’t have that many bottles of this wine? Yeah, no, I mean, look, it’s. As you know, this is my, it’s my hobby. I really enjoy doing it. I don’t really have a life outside of just true social and fighting. Deep state bad. Deep state bad actors and woke corporations and in my spare time, I just love to make wine. It’s kind of the confluence of art and science and we’ve actually had a lot of your people, listeners have joined the wine club. Matter of fact, if you. I’m not promoing it.
Well, I’m not, you know, but Well, I guess I am promoing it, but if you, if you join the wine club, put an X22, if you get it ordered, we can get, ship it to you before, before Christmas. But we have a lot of people that listen to your show that join the wine club and for the, for if your first time here hearing this, Dave and I have a, have a, we, we argue over what the appropriate amount of oak for the wine, how long the wine should sit in oak, how much oak there should be.
Should it be new oak on the wine? So that’s the background for everybody to, so they understand. So I, I, I kind of focus on old world style. So I’m growing Portuguese varietal grapes in, in, in Paso Robles. And I have a Bordeaux style which I tend, which are Cabernet, you know, Cabernet Sam being the most well known grape. So I make kind of two different style of wines, but I make them old world style, which is with oak but not over oaked. And Dave, I think he would just, you just prefer to drink pure oak.
If you could just go to the pour right out of it. I’m kidding. It started off with, with the first bottles that you produced and when you created the first couple of bottles, you had the Patriot and then you had the Posse Robles. And I was drinking it, I said, oh, you, you told me like, oh, I don’t like oak. I don’t want to use that much oak. And, and I was drinking, I said, well, maybe just a little bit more oak in the wine. I think that would help it out a little bit. And then that’s where our argument, you know, came out about oak and using French oak and drinking it.
Because I, the Patriot that you have was a little different than the possiblas. I like that a little bit better. And now with the Patriot reserve, which you allowed me to taste is absolutely fantastic, I have to say. And the, the bottle, I mean, if, if you haven’t seen his bottles, I mean it has his name on it. And this one. Oh, he has it right there. Look at that. He has a flag on. I don’t have the reserve. I should have brought. Yeah, you should have brought the reserve. The reserve has 13 stripes. Yeah, that’s a really nice stars.
Yeah, I mean you could just get it to collect the bottles. And I just want to let everyone know, and I said this many, many times before. I have nothing to do with his winemaking. I, I don’t with his sales or anything like that. When, when we get together, we just talk about wine. And. And there are a lot of wines that we agree on, and there are a lot of wines that we do not agree on. And. And that’s where we argue about wine. So, you know, it all depends on. On the. The wine, the French oak.
And I think. You don’t like that many. What? Well, you’re gonna. You’re gonna correct me on this, but you don’t like that many wines in Napa. Not your favorite? There are. There are some that you do like, but there are others that you’re like. I don’t like the whole Napa scene. And. And some of the wines there. Well, I think that. That Napa has went. And we have. Obviously, we have mutual friends that. That we know that are in Napa, and we like. And we like them, and they make some great. They make some phenomenal wines.
But I just think it’s become too corporate. I think the wines have. A lot of the wines are tasting the same, and I think when you. You know what I’m doing, it’s not that I don’t use oak. I use. I mean, everything’s in Oakland, right? It’s just how much new oak do I use and how much time do I let it stay on the new oak? So my goal is to. Is to take it out of the barrel before the oak kind of can overwhelm some of the flavors in the fruit. What I think you see happening is that these corporations, like, you know, I don’t know, 99% of the wine industry, of every bottle of wine sold in America is owned by, you know, a few corporations.
So there’s very few, like, people out there like me that are small, that are just, you know, wanting to kind of produce something that we, you know, I think is unique and special. And, you know, I don’t want. You know, but I don’t want to mask the fruit. Now, I will say with that Patriot Reserve, the difference in it. In it is. Is. It’s barrel select. So there was only six barrels of it that that was made. But I went through and I was able to pick the six barrels that I wanted. And so to your point, Dave, and you pick that up, it’s all.
That was all in new French oak. And that’s really the. I mean, there’s other differences, but that’s the big difference between the Patriot Reserve and then the other. The regular Patriot. Most of the wine comes from the same parts of the vineyard, comes from a ranch called Santa Margarita Ranch. Friends of mine, that. That it was actually one of the last Vineyards planted by the old Robert Mondavi. So before he, you know, before he passed away. And so actually, a lot of that cab. I think two of those barrels came off of that original vineyard. So Santa Margarita is a little bit higher elevation, about.
Have you been to Paso Robles before? I can’t remember. No, I have not. Yeah, so it’s about. It’s about 10 miles south of Paso Robles, above. Sits above San Luis Obispo. So it’s. I’ve always enjoyed the wines from there. And. And that’s why that Patriot Reserve, I, you know, I. I wanted to prove not only to you, Dave, I think it was fun. Yeah. But go ahead. But, yeah, mostly, mostly to you, I wanted to prove that you can make that Paso Robles can make just as good of wine as what they make in Napa. And I think, you know, I think people, even one of our friends who will remain nameless because he has a winery and he’s a good friend of ours, but I don’t want to get him in any trouble.
I think he was surprised when he had that Patriot Reserve that. Because he’s a big Napa, big cab guy, and he was surprised that that cab came from Paso Robles. But I think you also. You also did something else. You also handpicked the grapes, right, for the reserve. Yeah. I mean, everything there was a little different, but it was a little different than the Patriot. Right, but when you went with the. No, no, we selected the barrels. So we selected the barrels that we. That we wanted to use from just. From three different vineyards. The. But I will say, like, this year we’re going to have something really cool.
It won’t be in this year’s. Like this year. Devin. Nuneswines.com, i should at least tell people the website, Devonuswines.com if you put an X22, we’ll do the shipping for free. Join the club. You get a case a year that ships out. We’ll get it to you before Christmas, hopefully. But it ships out in November. But in 24, we harvested something really cool. And this May, and I think you might have been thinking about this, I was in search of this Portuguese grape called Alicante. Yeah, that’s what I’m taught. Yes. Yeah, Alicante Boucher. And it’s a unique grape.
There’s another grape like it called Suzanne, which I actually use in my Portuguese blend. And historically, there. There was. There was Zinfandel, came out of California. It was a Croatian. Everybody believes it was Croatian. But what they. What they did is you don’t see very many of them, but they’re called old vines in. And they grow close to the ground, and they’re not on. They’re not trellised. And back, you know, 100 years ago, they figured out that by planting this alicante, it would give it color, it would make it last. Remember, you had to ship it, and you’d have to ship it in containers back to New York from California.
It was. You know, winemaking was way different back then, but every. But all over California had this old vine zinfandel. So a friend of mine that has some small acreage of old vine, he thinks the vineyard could possibly be over 100 years old, is one of the oldest vineyards in Paso Robles. And we went out there and what we discovered was that there was alicante that was spread throughout that vineyard, and we didn’t know about it. So we’re super excited about this wine because it’s really old school wine, old world California wine that just doesn’t exist anymore.
So that’s something I’m really excited about. It won’t be out for a couple of years because, you know, now it’s sitting in the barrel. Oak barrel, Dave. Oak barrel. Thank you. Thank you for that. Yeah. And then we’re going to have. Yeah, a lot of really, really interesting wines. So this year we had the Patriot, which is the cab. The Patriot Reserve, which is that barrel selective cap. And then we had one Portuguese blend. This year, next year for release, we’ll have the Patriot, Patriot Reserve and two Portuguese blends. I’m thinking about naming one after. I’m thinking about this because, remember, I had.
The first year I had the wine that was called the Central Coast. Yes. Which we still have. We still have some of that in stock. The other one sold out, but it was a Portuguese blend. We weren’t sure exactly what to do with it because it used cool climate Tempranillo, which is. So. It’s growing close to the ocean. So if you take. I kind of showed you on the map. I explained, you know, kind of 10 miles to get San Margarita, then you go down into San Luis Obispo. That’s closer to the ocean level. And then near in the Edna Valley, Avila beach area, have this cool climate Timpranillo that I made the 21 with.
It’s very special, it’s very interesting, very unique. Probably the only place in the world you can get a wine like that. Which is why, you know, I find my. This is why I Love this. You know, doing this is why it’s my hobby. But what we. Next year for 23, we actually found another Portuguese and Spanish grape called Graciano. And so I’m going to bring back that. I’ll have my, like, the pastel robos, what we call kind of my signature blend. That’s. That’s three Portuguese grape varieties. But I’m going to have the. I’m going to have this with the cool climate.
Tempranillo with Graciano with Touriga Nacional and Tinta Count and Suzanne. So I’m gonna have five grapes. It’s already blended. It’s in the barrel, blended, ready to go. I’ll probably bottle it here in a few months and it’ll be out next November. But I’m actually thinking about naming that one. So I have the Patriot Patriot Reserve. I have kind of the classic Portuguese style of just Devin Nunes, which is my signature blend. I’m thinking about calling the. Naming this one after, like, my daughters. So I don’t know. I’m trying to think of a name for it, but maybe you can help me right off the bat.
I don’t know your daughter’s name. I think that would. That’d be nice to. Yeah, I think. Yeah. Maybe the first letters of their, you know, of their first name. Making something out of it. That sounds. That’s what I’m thinking. Better than Central Coast. Central Coast. What the hell? So people like the name Patriot Patriot Reserve. It’s easy. Yeah, yeah. And also it’s nice with the flag and. And of course, it has your name on there. And. And it’s. It’s a good. Also the bottle is a good collector’s item too. I mean, the wine’s good and you keep the bottle afterwards.
You can, you know, make it into a candle or whatever you want to do with it. Well, and then I love. I. We have so many people. It’s funny, I got so much. So many people sending me stuff over. They’re posting on true social. Other places. They love taking my wine to Thanksgiving family Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday parties, especially if they have liberal, liberal relatives. Oh, that must be. A buddy of mine did a trick last. Last year. He. He knew that his. I guess his has a couple ants that of course are very liberal. So he.
What he did was he. He decanted the wine, hid the bottles and he put it up, got all the wine out there, decanted the Patriot and he said that he told everybody, oh, this is a new winery out of Paso Robles. I hope you guys like the wine and set it all up if you don’t like that wine. I have some Napa wine. So we got some Napa wine out. He had two different wines going and afterwards they all voted and they all liked my wine. And then he brought the bottle out and showed his aunts and they were.
They didn’t know what to do. So it was quite. It was quite funny. That, that is interesting. And just to remind everyone, I have nothing to do with Devin’s wine. Even though he uses X22 for free shipping. That just get the free shipping. I don’t get anything from this or anything like that whatsoever. Basically we just like talking about wine. We like drinking wine and his passion is wine. So if you ever get to meet Devin Nunes, you know, you can talk about wine with him and, and I’ll just talk about another. Yeah. Other. Other randomly.
Yeah. Then you just wind me up and I go see, kind of like this. I just started talking. We just somehow we were talking about Cash Patel and State. We ended up in talking about wine. Yeah, that’s amazing how that happens. But hey, Devin, you know, but once again, if they wanted to get the wine. Yeah. Devin Nunes wines.com and then you just type, type in when it go through the process, put x22 and then hopefully if you get in quickly, we’ll get it shipped out as quickly as possible. If you join the wine club, wine club’s the best deal because you join the wine club, you get free shipping, you get 20% off and then you can buy additional wine throughout the year.
If you want to buy wine for event or something like that and you get that discount. But some of these are. There’s only so much of the wine. I’ve only have so many Patriot reserves. I only have like I ran out of that first year, that Portuguese blend, the 21 pass robo, as we call it. So it gets you, you know, that way it kind of helps us. If we have the club members, then we know kind of. I can calculate as I continue to grow this, this, you know, kind of small hobby business, you know, just trying to slowly build and grow it so that I can keep that wine quality very, very high.
Right. Like, like, look, I don’t know the Patriot Reserve, I don’t know that. I mean, I might be able to go up another three or four barrels maybe. But I don’t know. I mean because we, you know, we only found six that I thought was at the level that. And I have a really good winemaker that’s my. Been my friend for years. Mike Seiner, he’s got great wines, too. Seiner, Lavalley wines. Him and I and Connor that we kind of do this together as a hobby. And, and, you know, I don’t know. I don’t know that we would find.
We found six barrels we wanted to use. I, you know, maybe, maybe we could get up to 10. I’m not sure. So there’s only so much go around and then. Right. These Portuguese, these Portuguese grapes I just planted this year, five acres. But that’s going to take, you know, we won’t get that wine. There won’t be wine off of it for another two years. And then you got to remember, got two years in the barrel. So trying to kind of plan this out so that, you know, people that like this wine want to have this kind of unique wine to California, you know, trying to kind of build a business around the customer and the club members, people that like it.
But as I said, if you guys, I always tell people, if you don’t like my wine, that’s okay. More for X22 and I, I guess to drink because it’ll age well. Yes. Hey. Hey, Devin, thank you very much for being on the X22 Report Spotlight. I really appreciate it. Thank you very much. You’re the best. I appreciate it. You too. And Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all the folks out there and good New Year’s. Thank you. Absolutely. I’ll put all the links at the bottom of the video to make it easier for people to go right over to your winery.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate. Very well, thank.
