A young boy and girl, teenagers, one was killed and one was injured by a hit and run. Check it out. A 14 year old was killed and a 16 year old was seriously hurt. Now at this hour, we are not identifying the young victims out of respect for the family. Class 4’s Amelia Jones is live now in Garland with more on what happens. Amelia. Kacey, people have been dropping off items all day at the memorial behind me. As you mentioned right now, we are not using the names of the victims out of respect for the family.

I spoke to a friend of the 14 year old girl killed and she is still processing how she just saw her friend at school on Friday. Then she was gone the next day. All day on Sunday, people stopped along East Oats Road in Garland. Some brought flowers, stuffed animals and pinwheels. A few people hugged and others cried. She was only 14. Sophie Sotelo came to honor her soccer teammate and friend. Garland police say she was killed Saturday night when a speeding driver hit her. The girl’s 16 year old brother was also hit and is still in the hospital.

She had a whole life in front of her. It was just all taken away like that. Garland police say the siblings were hit while crossing the intersection of East Oats Road and Miami Drive. The suspect’s truck hit several parked cars too, before the driver got out and ran from the scene with a child. Through witnesses at the scene, Garland police were able to identify 30 year old Stetson Ybarbo as the driver and arrested him. He’s now facing two felony charges. What made me cry is, first of all, they’re people. Second of all, they’re kids. And third of all, they’re the neighborhood kids.

Barry Fleming works at the Chevron convenience store across the street. He says… Yo, I just want to say that it’s never, ever, ever, ever a reason unless you’re doing something illegal or you’re a drunk driver or something to ever do a hit and run. That’s just completely… There’s no passion in that. It’s like you ain’t even human. It’s like you’re not even human, man. Like hit and run. That’s one of the most cowardly things that you can do, in my opinion. And so rest in peace to them. Rest in peace to the family members. We never want to hear that type of thing.

But hug your people, man. You know, I was telling somebody the other day, I said, We spend too much time with the people that we know, focusing on the things that we don’t like about them and trying to change them. I’d rather spend all of my time focusing on making sure that I add value into the conversation. That’s why I say a lot of times when I get into, you know, a situation or I’m interacting with people. I spend 98% of my time in real life focused on the things that I like about you instead of trying to change you into being something that I don’t care about.

Because life is too short and none of it is going to matter in the end. So you, you, you know, you modify your time based off of who adds value into your life and you spend most of your time focused on the thing that you like about a person. But it is, man. It is sad. It is bad. And the fact that the dude did a hit and run also, it’s not right. It’s absolutely not right. In addition to that, protesters was at the National Mall trying to get Trump impeached. Check it out. Good evening. This protest down here on the mall lasted just over four hours with many of the people who attended identifying themselves as veterans who were very angry with President Trump and doge for the cuts that are being made.

Many of them came with homemade signs similar to one that said, this is a nation of laws, not kings. They’re very angry with President Trump. They think that he should be removed from office. The homemade signs were everywhere. No kings, no doge, no cuts to VA. Stop the coup and I serve no kings. For well over an hour, they listened to speaker after speaker point out what they call Trump’s abuse of the office of the presidency. Harry Dumb is there the former Capitol police officer who fought the mob on January 6 and ran for Congress in Maryland.

Donald Trump has referred to January 6 as a day of love. Hold on. This right here is love. I feel this. I love you all. And you all make me, you all give me a little bit of whatever the hell I got inside of me that makes me want to keep going. The protest was organized by comedian Cliff Cash and the 14th Now, a group calling for Trump’s removal from office. You cannot beat lawless people with laws. You cannot beat people with rules who do not and have not ever followed rules. At times the crowd broke into chance.

I’m down here for everybody on that wall. I’m down here for all the veterans. I’m down here for America. I’m down here because this needs to be done. I’m here in solidarity because what’s happening to our country is not right. They don’t look like veterans to me. That don’t look like a veteran. It may be. I have no idea. That does not look like a veteran to me. And again, I could be absolutely off. I could be wrong. I could be absolutely wrong. But that for some reason, listen, I believe that it’s a lot of these people that’s paid actors.

All of these people, in my opinion, could be liberals. And it is what it is. Listen, y’all lost. It just is. We suffered through a countless amount, countless amount of Biden administration issues and problems. We did. We suffered through Biden and all of that stuff. And now we’re 40 days, almost 50 days in to this administration. And now y’all want to get upset. Somebody said that’s an officer and time. I’m not talking about the person that was speaking that was running for office in Baltimore that lost. I’m talking about the majority of people in the crowd do not look like veterans.

And if they are, I’m sorry. We cannot continue to subsidize the federal government and tell these people that it’s OK for us to give money away for a bunch of stuff or a bunch of people that are not doing their jobs as inside of the federal government. And just because just because you’re upset about it does not mean that we’re going to stop doing what it is that Trump is mandated to do from the American people. It is what it is. Now, I do support their right to protest. I support their right to go out there, especially for the people that don’t have jobs or don’t have anything better to do.

I do. I think that a lot of these people, Jordan, are crisis actors. I think a lot of these people are crisis actors. What does being an officer have to do with the cuts that’s being made as far as the fraud, waste and abuse that’s happening in the federal government that has nothing to do with anything, nothing to do with anything. Trump is more patriotic and he’s done more for the American people than his 50 days in office than Biden did the entire four years already. But I support their right to protest. If you don’t have nothing better to do, if you want to mobilize, if you all take your time out and you’re all losing money or you ain’t got no job or you just chilling and you want to go out there and protest, I think that you all should be able to go out there and do so.

Anyways, that was what was happening at the National Mall. And then last but not least, a black community in Ohio is arming themselves after a neo-nazi rally. Check it out. Turn out to one community. These are civilians, members of the Lincoln Heights safety and watch program. It’s a duty. Okay, let’s go. The duty protecting their neighborhood, the majority black village of Lincoln Heights, Ohio. After neo-nazis held a rally here last month, carrying rifles, waving swastikas and hurling racial slurs just moments before children were let out of school. At the time, law enforcement officials said the neo-nazis did not break any laws, but an investigation by county prosecutors is ongoing.

Weeks later, the KKK came with these flyers. First African American community above the nation. Wait, what did the flyers say? Let me see what they say. Leave now self-deport or avoid detention. Is that a KKK flyer? Let’s continue on these flyers. First African American community above the nation. Safety and Watch Group spokesperson Dorrance Daniels says the police did not do enough, which was more chilling because the town was founded in the 1920s as a safe haven for black residents. Lincoln Heights is our home. If somebody broke into your home, you call the police and the police says, you know, if they do it again, there’s no, we haven’t broken any law.

So we’re just going to allow them to break into your home again. What would you do? Are you worried at all that having a potentially armed response could just create more friction, create more danger? I’ll answer that by saying I’ve never felt safer as a black man in my community than I have right now. The mayor of Evendale, which oversees the police force that responded that day, said in a statement to NBC News, our emphasis on de-escalation and public safety resulted in the incident’s resolution without injuries to any of the persons involved. But residents here say they can’t afford to wait.

Every day, the Safety and Watch Group escorts children to school and patrols the streets. Why do you all wear masks? Those Nazis, we have reports of them finding our backgrounds, and so we’re not hiding ourselves from the residents, but we protecting our family from what we’re doing out here. While many locals do support the security group, some, like business owner Eric Ruffin, say they wish the group wasn’t needed. We don’t want to become what we hate. You know, we don’t want to become a group of people that walk around feeling like we have a reason in America to have to protect ourselves.

And this community is not backing down. So let me tell you what my thoughts are on this. And it may be a little bit controversial, but I have to be honest regardless of how you feel. My thoughts are I believe that these black people have the right to arm themselves as long as they’re not breaking any laws. And if they want to patrol their children to make sure that they get to school safely, they should be able to do so. I also believe the other group, if they’re not breaking any laws, then you cannot prosecute, you cannot arrest them because they are not breaking any laws.

Here’s the controversial part. Here’s the controversial part. How come we, I’m not going to say we, but the community, how come the community only mobilizes when they see white people with signs. Why don’t we do this when we see black people or we see gangs within our community or we see drug dealers doing this inside of our communities? How come, oh, I’m sorry, this is the controversial part because I know that this is the part that we’re not supposed to talk about. Why do we only mask up and arm ourselves and make sure that we’re vigilant and drive out the people that we don’t necessarily like? When it’s people that say that they’re white people that are racist against black people, how come we don’t do this with our own communities against other people in our own communities? That’s all I’m asking.

I believe that they have the right, as long as they’re not breaking any laws, to be able to do whatever it is that they want to do under the Constitution and within it, whatever governing body that’s happening within they state and they city. What I’m trying to understand is, why is it only a problem when white people are showing up with signs?
