Summary

➡ Malls are evolving to attract Gen Z by offering more experiential activities, nearly doubling such offerings in the past decade. Major media companies like Netflix are joining this trend, creating real-life experiences for fans to immerse themselves in their favorite shows. The first Netflix House, a 100,000 square foot space featuring the company’s most popular titles, is set to open at the King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania. Retail experts believe this shift towards physical experiences is due to Gen Z’s desire to balance their digital lives with real-world interactions.

In Pennsylvania? Alright, so let’s get into this. Make sure y’all hit a like for the algorithm, subscribe to the channel, and turn on your notifications. I’m gonna share my screen with you guys. So what did you guys buy? I got two things. It’s never about buying stuff. It’s just about the experience. From dining spots by popular influencers like Mr. Beast, to indoor activities at Dick’s House of Sport, even activates life-sized video games. Malls are tapping in to Gen Z’s interests, nearly doubling the number of experiential offerings in the past decade. Now major media companies are joining the transformation.

Netflix House is our in-real-life experience for fans to immerse theirself into Netflix stories. We got an exclusive look inside the more than 100,000 square foot space, where the streamer’s most famous titles from Wednesday to Bridgerton are making the leap from online to IRL. The first location set to open this week at the King of Prussia Mall outside Philadelphia. A decision Netflix’s Chief Marketing Officer Marion Lee says is strategic. Why malls? Well, it is a traditional gathering place for people. There’s a lot of nostalgia for kids, teenagers to hang out at the mall. And so we felt like it was a natural place for us to have our fans who are already walking around the malls to be able to stop in.

Oh, yes, I’m not very good. For us to be inside of a mall where families are coming, you really need something for everyone. And so you may not have time to do this for an hour, but you may have time to play a few arcade games. And so it was important to have variety in the space. Retail experts say that malls are evolving quickly to meet demand. Jet Z has reinvigorated the mall. There is a desire in this generation to lean into the physical world because they’re been such a big part of the digital world for such a long period of time.

Thank you, Ray. And bringing people together. People are always trying to make up for what we lost from the pandemic. And I think a great way to do that is come into the mall and hang out with each other. Chloe. Y’all, you said you lived 20 minutes from there. Listen, Jason 18. I might have to fly over there to Pennsylvania. Because you know me, I like real in-person stuff. And so that’s my bad. I’m an in-person type of guy. I want to meet you in person. I want to hang out in person. I want to experience things in real life.

I want to go to the show. That’s one of the reasons why I like doing a Sunday movie review channel on Room 9 is because I like actually having to go to the show. And being in person actually limits your ability to do multitasking things so you can just focus on having a good time. Now, on the flip side, I’m not really sure where the value at from Netflix is. You know what I’m saying? I don’t I don’t get it. Are they doing this? And then it’s generating more revenue because people are actually tuning into the shows.

Do they charge to get in there? You know what I’m saying? Like, I don’t know what a value at is. If I’m looking at it purely from an entertainment perspective, that’s one thing. If I’m looking at it from a business perspective, that’s a whole another conversation. I don’t I don’t understand what a value at is. First ever Netflix house in the world is opening here at King of Prussia Mall for the public on Wednesday. But tonight they’re expecting to welcome some of the biggest stars from their series walking this red carpet. Now, we got a peek inside of this immersive experience.

We’ll show you what you can expect. But also how these experiences are really the actual stars is going to be walking a red carpet. There’s no changing the way people interact with and spend time at the mall. The return of an American tradition walking around and hanging out at the mall. I come for everything. Honestly, they have good food, good experiences and just a shop. But it’s not just holiday sales bringing people in. According to experts, the mall is now serving as an entertainment one-stop shop. I come for a full experience. I come to eat. I come to shop.

And also I come to see what’s trending. According to the International Council of Shopping Centers, malls have nearly doubled the number of experiential offerings in the last decade. That’s because they got to do that in order to survive. If a mall wants to survive, they have to rethink everything. It can’t just be about shopping. It can’t just be about adding stores. It has to be an immersive experience. And this is actually a good idea. Like, you know, malls having arcades, malls having bowling, malls having whatever it is, a movie theater attached to it, all of that stuff.

Honestly, I think that the real experience with everything evolving and going into AI, with everything going online, I think that the real experience is an in-person experience. I’ll give you an example. Women today, because they’ve been starved, they’ve been starved of attention in real life and it doesn’t necessarily translate what they experience in online versus real life. They excited when somebody gives them a compliment or talk to them in real life. They get super excited when somebody talks to them in real life. You know why? Because everything has become so digital and so immersive when it comes to our online experiences.

So when you actually interact with people in real life, that’s the real experience now. We now, going back to the opposite, right? It’s like records, right? Like vinyl. Vinyl is a profit generator for most artists. Like, people love records, record players, throwback, anything old, anything in-person, real life. That’s the real experience now, and I’m here for it. I’m with it. I’m with it. I love to see it at Somerset. Actually, I love to see it at downtown. Anything that you can actually get your hands on, physical, going in, touching, talking, all of that stuff.

People have become so immersed in e-commerce that the luxury, correct, Azrael, will be in-person experiences, in my opinion. That is going to be the real play. The in-person experience is going to be the real play. Can you press your mom? It’s helping lead that charge. We were able to attract some of these really awesome, first-of-their-kind experiences. Netflix, obviously, opening this Wednesday. You can hit that if you can master an in-person experience. That one is coming in 2027. Dick’s House of Sport. We opened camp last year, so giving people an additional reason to come to the mall outside of maybe just shopping or dining.

The latest edition, Netflix House, preparing… I remember y’all sleeping, right? Y’all talking about FYE. FYE wasn’t as good as Blockbuster Music. Some of y’all see y’all missing it. Blockbuster had a music store, if I’m not mistaken. We used to take a trip as a crew. We used to take a trip as a crew, and we would go to Blockbuster Music. A lot of people don’t even know where it at. We used to go to the Blockbuster Music store. It wasn’t a video store, it was a music store. An adult thing about Blockbuster Music was you would go in there and you can listen to any CD, any track, anything that you wanted to listen to.

It was called Blockbuster Music, and you can listen to any soundtrack, anything that was new, and then you would buy whatever it is that you thought was dope. You listened to it, throw the headphones in, and then you would go and buy it. I love music stores. I loved music stores. Blockbuster Music was the stuff, bro. It was it. It was it. You could listen to the whole track, you could listen to the whole thing, and then you bought it. Yep, I love Blockbuster Music. It was slapping, bro. It was really the thing to do.

We used to go to Blockbuster Music, and we would hit the streets. And then after we hit the streets, hopefully you can bag you some numbers, and then you set up your weekend. Open its doors to the public on Wednesday. The immersive experience is free to enter and has food opportunities, shopping, and ticketed games that put people in the middle of their favorite Netflix series. For over two decades, right, fans have let us come into their homes and entertain them. And now we thought, well, why not bring them over to ours? And Netflix House is a place where this offering will change throughout the year.

We’re able to really move at the speed of those stories and keep up with what fans love the most, and deliver it to them and give them their hero moment. Netflix says it’s opening in Dallas this December and adding a Vegas location in 2027. It’s a place you can come back time and time again. I’m still trying to figure out what a value add is. Where’s the money that you can make in it? I don’t understand it. I’m all here for it. I can’t wait to visit it. Probably go to the one over there in Pennsylvania.

I can’t wait to visit it. [tr:trw].
