And these things are totally bulletproof. When it comes to making fires, there is a veritable cornucopia of different devices, products, and accoutrement available. Seriously, there’s a lot of things to start a fire. But what I’m going to talk about in this video is something that is so small and so perfect that you can’t leave the house without having it in your pocket. It should be part of your EDC all day, every day. And what it is I’m talking about is this little fella right here. This is the Sparklight Aviation Survival Firestarter.

It was designed by Four Seasons Survival, specifically for aviation survival kits, and it’s the official US military firestarter. This is a great little setup, and as you can see, it’s the same size as a tic-tac container. Yeah, literally, it’s that small. I don’t know why these are $11, but I don’t care. So it doesn’t matter. But this little thing is so small, you cannot have, if you’re survival minded, you cannot forget to bring this with you. And they also offer a better version called a Brass Sparklight Military Aviation Firestarter. This is what I carry.

This is a great little setup. This is made out of brass instead of plastic. Not that the plastic wouldn’t work, but hey, if something can be modified or made better, I’m all about it. So let’s get into this. I’m going to show you while taking a ride on my mountain bike with zero preparation, how easy and quick this thing works. And I’m also going to do a series of videos, and this is number one, on small, easy to use survival items that will help save you in a really bad situation. So here we go.

Now, when I originally recorded this, I didn’t do any audio. I was simply doing this with a GoPro running, but this is literally how long it took. I pulled my mountain bike over, I cleared a little spot on the ground next to a fire ring. I pulled out my Air Force Firestarting kit that I always have with me because it’s that big. Everything you need to start a fire comes tumbling right out as soon as you tap on it. I’m just kidding. Well, actually, I’m not because it does. But the survival kit has several little items in it, including a razor blade and water purification tablets, and the thing’s 15 bucks.

You can’t not have one in your pocket. It comes in a nice little plastic carrying case. Everything fits in there. I keep a Ranger band or an elastic band around it. But watch how quickly this goes from a small pile of twigs or what’s known as a faggot. And I simply take apart the tinder that’s provided inside the Air Force Firestarting kit, spread it out, make it as feathery as you possibly can, lay it underneath the twigs, and then you take the little brass or plastic, that one’s the plastic one, with the flint on top, spark it up a little bit.

Might take a couple of times, and it was chilly out. Remember that. It’s cold out. It’s winter time. Took me a couple of tries to get the spark going, but there it goes. Fire has started. The little puffy tinder thing is doing its job, and the sticks are slowly catching on fire. I don’t want a big fire. I’m just doing this for you. Instructional purposes only. How’s that? That sounded pretty fancy, didn’t it? Instructional purposes only. I’ve been sitting on this video for about three or four years, because that mountain bike up there that I built, I don’t have it anymore, so there it is.

But there you go. In less than two minutes, that was dumping everything on the ground, literally in less than a minute, you’ve got a fire. So I go and move my mountain bike, and then I come back and I throw a couple more twigs on there, just to show you that you can literally get a large roaring fire going. But again, this is an instructional video only, and I just want to do this so you can see exactly what you can expect from using this product. The link will be below. But as you can see, with this thing that’s smaller than a tic-tac, not only can I get a fire started with minimal effort whatsoever at all, all you need is some sticks. There’s also water purification tablets in there, a small straight edge razor blade, which is very handy for numerous things. And in the next video, I’ll show you what those numerous things can be, because you’ll be amazed what you can do when you don’t have much to get it done with. You see what I’m saying? Otherwise, the rest of this video right here, you’re just going to watch how big this fire could have got.

And I did have a helicopter start hovering over me, which was kind of awesome, but just not in an awesome way. So I got it going pretty well. As you can see, I’m next to a fire ring and I put the fire out soon thereafter. Now, like I said, I’m going to do a series of videos on water purification, keeping yourself warm, et cetera.
