Had I been in Congress, I would have been a voice warning against an escalation of that conflict. I think it’s urgent that there be a ceasefire. It’s urgent that America play a constructive role, which we’re not doing right now. I mean, let’s face it, american resources, american bombs, american strategic advice, they’re going into this. We need to be guiding Israel towards a place of peace, because for all those who are concerned about Israel, people must be aware that an escalation could set off a wider war that would threaten Israel’s very existence.
And so as someone who considers himself sympathetic to the concerns of Israel, as someone who has shown a sympathy to the concerns of the Palestinians, I think that my voice could make a pivotal difference in the Congress. Let’s look at it this way. When our brothers and sisters are killing each other, it’s not for us to take a side so that the slaughter can continue. It’s for us to bring them together to help heal their differences so that they both may survive.
That’s the approach that I will take in the Congress of the United States. .
