The Italian government has thrown its weight behind a new legislation that would prohibit the production of lab-grown meat and other synthetic foods. 

 

The proposed law is aimed at promoting Italian food heritage and safeguarding public health. 

 

Those who break the law would face hefty fines of up to €60,000 (about $65,000). 

 

Francesco Lollobrigida, the head of the newly rebranded Ministry for Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, emphasized the significance of preserving Italy’s rich food culture.
