Good morning and welcome to inside Politics Sunday. I’m Manu Raji and we begin with breaking news. A new CNN national poll released for the first time here on Inside Politics Sunday reveals the challenges President Biden faces as he asks voters for a second term. Even as former President Trump has been stuck in a New York courtroom fending off criminal charges. And with three other criminal cases looming, our new poll, which was conducted by ssrs, finds Trump is leading Biden, who has ample work to do with his base and with independent voters who are breaking to his GOP rival in a head to head race.
49% of voters say theyd pick Trump for president, compared to 43% for Biden. Thats a nine point Trump advantage with independent voters. Add in third party candidates and Trumps lead jumps even more. He has 42% to Bidens 33%, and Robert F. Kennedy Junior gets 16% of the vote. Our poll also underscores the challenges of incumbency and that voters four years later have a better view of Trump’s presidency compared to Biden’s.
55% say Trump’s time in office was a success, with only 39% saying the same about Biden’s presidency. It is officially a train wreck, gang. Even CNN is admitting that the Biden campaign is collapsing, all as Trump is absolutely surging. We’re going to see what’s behind the numbers in the latest poll and we’re going to see that the CNN poll is just the tip of the iceberg, gang. Something is happening here and it really is turning out to be Biden’s worst nightmare come true.

The left wing activists, disguised as journalists over at CNN are sounding the alarm. Despite all of the attempts by the Democrats and their allies in the legacy media to interfere in the democratic integrity of a presidential election through their use of weaponized legalism, Donald Trump has taken his largest lead yet over Biden.
Head to head, Trump now has a six point lead over Biden, beating him 49% to 43%. And when the rest of the candidates are factored in in a five way race, Trump’s national lead jumps to nine points. I mean, it’s absolutely astonishing. Again, we never saw anything even remotely like this. And 2016 or 2020 in terms of national polling and the cross tabs suggest what’s really behind these numbers.
51% of independents said that Trump’s presidency was a success, whereas only 37% see Biden’s presidency as successful. Altogether, 55% of respondents believe Trump’s presidency was a success, whereas only 39% believe the same for Biden. A whopping 61% believe Biden is an abject failure. I mean, there it is, gang. That’s basically the rationale behind these numbers. Again, when all is said and done, Trump has perhaps the single easiest, simplest campaign pitch ever.
When I was president, things were great. When Biden came in, he messed everything up. Vote for me and I’ll make things great again. Right? When I was president, America was pretty great. Biden came in and destroyed everything. Vote for me and I’ll make America great. Again, I mean, this is the advantage that Trump has as what we call a hybrid candidate, part incumbent, part candidate. He has a track record that voters can reference when evaluating the current incontinent in chief.
And it also accounts for why these numbers have been so consistent. The relatively high approval rating for Trump’s presidency and the dismally low approval rating for Biden’s has remained relatively fixed for nearly the last year. And there’s really nothing to suggest that those numbers are going to change before November. Right? There’s no economic forecasts. There’s nothing happening that. Certainly nothing happening to change the situation, the disastrous situation at the southern border.
There’s no indication that Russia is suddenly going to cower and surrender or that the Israel Hamas conflict is going to end anytime soon. I mean, there’s literally nothing that we can expect in the next six months that’s going to change these numbers. At this point, we can safely assume that voters are going to mail in their ballots or they’re going to go to the polls on election day, largely seeing Trump’s presidency as a success and Biden’s an abject failure.
Just to bring this home. Gang, here’s the RCP, the real clear politics polling average for all the swing states. Again, this is the aggregate, all the polling that’s been done over the last several months. Trump is up by two in Wisconsin. He’s up by almost one in Pennsylvania. He’s up by five in Arizona. He’s up by just over one in Michigan. He’s up by five in Nevada. That’s stunning.
No, republicans won Nevada in 20 years. He’s up by four in Georgia, and he’s up by over five in North Carolina. So as things stand right now, according to the polling averages, Trump is set to win upwards of around 312 electoral votes, even more than he won in 2016, when again, he had nowhere near this kind of polling dominance. I just want to underscore what we’re looking at here.
Take Wisconsin, for example. Okay? Back in 2016, before Trump pulled off the upset and won Wisconsin, there was not a single poll showing him in the lead at all leading up to November. Not one. Trump was consistently behind in every single poll leading up to November, and yet he won. Because Trump always over performs his polling. He overperforms his polling by about three points pretty consistently. But, gang, Trump is now consistently ahead in virtually all the polling, not just in Wisconsin, but in every single swing state.
And he’s been in the lead for months now. To make matters even worse, Biden is now officially the least popular president at this point in his presidency in the last 70 years. According to latest gallup poll, Biden is in a weaker position than any prior incumbent president, including Jimmy Carter and George Herbert Walker Bush. He’s pulling at just 38% approval, the lowest of any incumbent president at this point in his presidency in seven decades.
By comparison, Trump at this point in his presidency was at 47% approval, Obama was at 46% and the first Bush was at 42%. Biden is in the thirties. And to top it all off, as all of this is happening, it’s now being widely reported that Trump and DeSantis met over the weekend. This is the first time the two met since the very contentious primary, where Trump proved once again he’s the godzilla of politics, an absolute crush.
DeSantis, who, by the way, has regained his mojo, having come back to his wheelhouse as governor. But now we can only speculate, you know, what the meeting was about. Some, we’re getting some leaks that it had to do. Primarily, it was orchestrated by a big time republican donor. So it’s safe to assume that DeSantis is going to be raising some big bucks for Trump going into the general election.
Biden has been outspending Trump literally five to one thus far in the campaign, which is just further insult to injury given how badly Biden is doing in the polling. Trump is crushing him and he doesn’t even have to spend a dime to do it. But that’ll change after this weekend. If they talk turkey here, DeSantis is going to be bringing in some major cash to the Trump team.
That was one of the things that DeSantis did do very well in his brief but ill fated presidential campaign. He was literally awash in cash and he could steer some of those mega donors Trump’s way. Now, of course, talk of him taking the VP slot is back, so we’ll have to see what goes on with that. But again, at the very least, we’re seeing a very united republican party going into November.
We’re seeing the mega donors increasingly lining up, united behind Trump, and we’re seeing relatively fixed polling that’s giving Trump a huge lead both nationally and in all the swing states, every single one. It’s no wonder, no wonder at all, why CNN is starting to panic. .
