And I want people to understand that’s the way it works. It’s kind of an at-will reality, isn’t it, Sheriff? Yeah, absolutely. It’s a volunteer organization. Yep. And volunteers, too, or they can leave either one. Well, and that’s intentional to understand that prevents people from getting too powerful. As a volunteer, you know, it’s hard to get too much power. And as the sheriff, it’s easy then to set up, as you mentioned, you’ve got these separate jurisdictional boundaries for the different elements of your posse. Then you’ve got people who have different levels of involvement and certification. These are the checks and balances built into the posse organization, right? Right, right.
Absolutely. And that’s what is in this policy and procedures. All right, Jack, do you have another question? This is fascinating. Does anybody in the audience have a question? You can text it in or chat it in and we’ll see if we can get Sheriff Bob Songer to answer. He’s the expert on these policies. I’m just learning from Sheriff Songer. Well, you’ve got a good man to learn from. Thank you. With your years of experience in the nature of what you’re up to now and the fact that you’ve got several other counties around, which I assume you’re friendly with, or maybe even border.
I mean, you really do have a great position to promote this whole idea across the country. And putting this document in front of the people of the posse here, letting them bring that to the attention of their local sheriff. I’m certain that you would be happy to speak to any sheriff that wanted to get some pointers on how to get it started and how to manage it, etc. And self-police it, just like you said. I mean, you’re not going to be the kind of person on the outside that’s looking to support the Constitution and then allow a tyrant inside your organization.
It’s going to be the same in as out, as above, so below. So I applaud you for that, and I would really like it if you could do that, if you could become a document writer, a book writer, and in some way leave us with something that would be passed around. Because, I mean, I believe, honestly, my own sheriff in my own county right now, the one that’s here now, not the ones replacing him, but wouldn’t even have the slightest idea that he could do a posse. I mean, he’s heard the word, probably watched Andy Griffith.
They really don’t have any grounding in the idea. They’re just somebody that came there to do paperwork and move prisoners from A to B, etc. And that’s just a terrible waste of a sheriff’s position, in my opinion. [tr:trw].
