A jail’s a different whole environment. And I know you catch a lot of flack for your jail as I see it in the news. But there’s no jail that’s run where anybody doesn’t have an issue with it from time to time. It’s just the nature of being a jail. Plus you got overcrowding and… But you’re dealing with criminals, just to declare. That’s right. Straight up criminals. Then you’ve got mental issues and drug issues. I mean, it goes forever. A little worse in the state is kind of on the trend right now. We’re with the fifth or sixth jail to be taken over by county commissioners.
And that’s kind of the trend that’s going across the state right now. Well, they’re doing it because they want to defang the sheriff. They want to basically create appointed bureaucrat thugs that do the bidding of the gang. That’s what’s going on, people. And I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t know any polite way to say it, Sheriff Songar, because this is a hostile takeover in their attempt. It’s called control. The state controls the municipalities, the counties, whatever. Control. And there, in fact, there’s a House percentile. I’m sorry. The mathematics is a little off subject here, but it’s actually on subject.
Let’s say you want to run for sheriff if this bill passes. You want to run for sheriff. So you go down to the clerk’s office to file your intent to run for sheriff and pay your fee to run. And they say, oh, no, no, no, you’re running for sheriff. You can’t sign up for that until you go through the Washington State Training Commission, background investigation, psych, and so forth to get qualified. And if they qualify, and who runs the training commission? Oh, that’s right, the governor. So if they qualify, then you can go file for sheriff.
And only at that time can the public elect you or not elect you. So if you get elected, later on, you say something bad about the administration, part of that law. As I understand it, they can pull you, remove you as sheriff, and then go through the process again for somebody else to run for sheriff. And what that does is turn the governor into judge, jury, and executioner. Exactly, exactly. Yeah, that’s what they’re trying. That’s really a scary idea. I mean, you have no autonomy at all then. So the people have no representative. Just the same thing we have now with the entire election process.
We know that they select the candidates that we’re allowed to choose from. And you know, there’s nothing there they’re going to do for us, and that’s the same situation. In fact, the sheriff’s probably the last person that we still have that is not in that system of being put forward as a candidate. So that’s just very disheartening. I jokingly say, guys, that anybody running for a judge, running for county prosecutor, running for county commissioners, city council, they have to do the same testing that law enforcement does. That’s a background investigation, a polygraph, and a psychological test.
And if they qualify, they go up to them. I guarantee you, none of those other election officials are going to go for them. Right. Well, they have to be able to pass it themselves. I mean, that’s the problem. [tr:trw].
