And all while Trump was in office, it had negative things to say. However, however, maybe they’re paying attention to what’s happening over there at CNN and saying, you know what? They’re getting laid off. It’s a little rough over there. Maybe they were paying attention to their numbers during the election. Maybe they say that we shouldn’t be listening to Joy Reid and we’re going to go in a completely different direction in order to repair the relationship with Trump. Anyways, they are meeting a lot of opposition. But before we get into people like The View and Sonny Holston and Whoopi Goldberg and all of the hyenas and lunch ladies on The View, I wanted to see for myself exactly what all of the fuss about and go to the source.
So this is the morning Joe hosts speaking about them going to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago and why they are now going to give Trump another opportunity and give coverage of Trump. Check it out. OK, so here’s where we are. Over the past week, Joe and I have heard from so many people, from political leaders to regular citizens deeply dismayed by several of President-elect Trump’s cabinet selections, and they are scared. Last Thursday, we expressed our own concerns on this broadcast and even said we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the president-elect himself. On Friday, we were given the opportunity to do just that.
Joe and I went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally with President-elect Trump. It was the first time we have seen him in seven years. Now, we talked about a lot of issues, including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents, and media outlets. We talked about that a good bit. And it’s going to come as no surprise to anybody who watches this show, has watched it over the past year or over the past decade, that we didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so. What we did agree on was to restart communications.
My father often spoke with world leaders, with whom he and the United States profoundly disagreed. That’s a task shared by reporters and commentators alike. We had not spoken to President Trump since March of 2020, other than a personal call Joe made to Trump on the morning after the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. In this meeting, President Trump was tearful, he was upbeat, he seemed interested in finding common ground with Democrats on some of the most divisive issues. And for those asking why we would go speak to the President-elect during such fraught times, especially between us, I guess I would ask back, why wouldn’t we? Five years of political warfare has deeply divided Washington and the country.
We have been as clear as we know how in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump’s actions and words in the coarsening of public debate. But for nearly 80 million Americans, election denialism, public trials, January 6th were not as important as the issues that moved them to send Donald Trump back to the White House with their vote. Joe and I realize it’s time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but also talking with him. As somebody close to Donald Trump told me this past weekend, this is a president who’s not seeking re-election, so maybe, just maybe, now could be the time for both parties to get to work.
Do y’all think that this is an indication of bending the knee and them switching up their position? I’m going to give you my thoughts, and then I’m going to pose a question to my co-host, which is the chat. All right? Are they bending the knee? Because we got to look at this from multiple different angles. Now, you know how they say that it’s your truth, my truth, and then the truth? Right? That the real truth is somewhere in between what you said and what you said because you take it in a certain way and they take it in a certain way.
Well, we’re going to take that approach in this situation, all right, before we see the meltdown from everybody else. The first question that you have to ask yourself is, well, did they concede? Because from my view, I believe that they’re conceding because they realize that the writing is on the wall and similar to what a lot of people are saying inside of the chat. They don’t want to lose their job. The whole country is moving away in a particular direction. The thing that I don’t understand about black people, because I have to give them some credit.
Even though they are conceding without saying that they’re conceding, in my opinion, I have to give them some credit because what they’re basically doing and what they’re saying is, listen, we got to pivot and we got to figure this out. Instead of being on the opposition and the losing team and going away, they’re going over there and seeing in and Joy Reid, we’re going to hold it down. I don’t want to be the next Don Lemon. I’m not trying to be the person that’s getting fired. I don’t want to lose my job. I got to say the job of the people that surround me.
And so they’re basically saying, listen, we’re going to take an objective approach and we’re going to get back to giving an opinion based off of what we see and not being swayed off a liberal. Talking points and just saying that we hate Trump because we didn’t know that he was going to get back in office and that he was going to sweep every battleground state and he was going to win the popular vote. The other side of it that you can say, which I don’t necessarily agree with this and I don’t think that this is the case, you can say that Trump’s win is bringing back journalistic integrity.
No, I don’t believe that is bringing back in journalistic integrity. This is people trying to protect themselves from getting from losing the bag, honestly. And so if you go through and you look at this video and you read all of the comments, oh my God, Democrats are angry at morning Joe. I’m surprised that they even still got the comments on in this video. They are angry at the morning Joe for even having a conversation and covering Trump’s second term objectively. Yes, they are. They are pissed. One hundred percent pissed. But let’s continue to hear what they got to say.
I know. Given the jarring headlines that we read every day, that may seem like a stretch. But think about this. Of the one hundred and fifty million votes cast, Donald Trump got 50 percent. Kamala Harris got about 49 percent. So I don’t know. Seems to make sense for leaders of both parties to seek common ground if it’s possible at all. And I will tell you, a lot of Democratic leaders we’ve talked to this past week since the election have told Mika and me it’s time for a new approach. And when I say Democrats are bending the knee, let me read some of y’all some of these comments.
Look, check this out. This is the comments on the video. You drank the Kool-Aid after calling everyone else out for drinking a Kool-Aid. How can you be trusted? Says Susan McLean. We pretty much know she a cat lady. Sarah P. These are all pretty much girls. I will never watch the show again. May your ratings drop as fast as you bend the knee. I’m never watching this show again. You’re normalizing after you normalizing visit. Remember your response to McCarthy’s kiss the ring visit. That brief political breath, that breathe political breath back into Trump after it’s failed.
Cool. It’s time for other shows. I’m out. You’re fired. They need to cancel this show. Fired of you and some CNN employees. Definite boycott of these two opportunities. Shame on you. They went down there to kiss the ring. It makes me sick to my stomach. They capitulated. I can no longer watch The Morning Joe. I know my value on Boycott Morning Joe. We’re not stupid. Mika and Joe, you know better than to give this condescending pre-written speech. This false flat after everything that you’ve said before, we’re moving on. I’m just so incredibly disappointed. Says a 70 year old, oh, 70 year old woman, 71 year old woman.
I’m already not watching any network news. The exception was an hour of Morning Joe no more. Even though it’s 3 a.m. out here and P&W, it was my go-to. I’m a 70 year old woman. I fought the good fight, made good trouble. I’ve admired your bravado, your direct and truthful approach, especially your impeccable support of all women. How can you even be anywhere near the orange menace? I actually feel betrayed. Hey, NBC got you two by the shirt and curlies. I’ve been watching NBC news programs since Jane and Paulie had a ponytail. I do not trust any of it now.
Come on, get off the networks. They’re all bought and paid for by people who will sell their soul, our democracy and the public. For another billion dollars, please continue the truth. Start a podcast or YouTube, anything but don’t follow him. What a betrayal! So, Tundra Cindy, enjoy your tax cuts, says user quackers, with the little thing on her nose. Shame on Joe and Mika. Basically, you’re saying that you’re going to ride with a dictator and save your behind. I will never watch your show again. Wait to immediately sell out and cover your A’s.
It’s gross! This is actually funny. Look at them smiling into the camera. About the man they called fascist five minutes ago. Well, that’s a valid response. This is not a disagreement. This is literally what you, Mika, talk about values. A disagreement is what kind of coffee one likes. We don’t care about that. Keith Olbermann was right. I thought he was exaggerating. These two are terrible. I will never watch The Morning Joe again. Absolutely disgusting. Shame on you, especially Mika. How can you betray women? I knew it. This is why, ladies and gentlemen, this is why I don’t give a flying F about what anybody thinks and I’m going to be authentically anti.
You know why? Because the minute that you don’t acquiesce over into other people’s views, they’re going to turn on you anyway. So you might as well be you. At least people know that you’re giving an authentic you. People in this chat that disagree with me, and I always say that we’re not an echo chamber, I always say, hey, listen, don’t mute nobody in the chat. Let them get their thoughts off. Let’s talk about it. Let’s get to it. Let’s get to this money. You know why? Because I don’t care if you agree or disagree with me, I’m going to say what I want to say anyway.
Now, they looking stupid because it had to bend the knee after calling Trump fascist and people are sitting there wanting to hold them accountable for their views. Let’s see what they got to say. They top Democrats. I mean top Democrats. They said we’re open. And this is before we talk to Donald Trump. They said, listen, we’re open to working with the incoming president if the incoming president is open to working with us. Yeah, the question is, though, how do we get there? Hyperbole and personal attacks will not work. My hair on fire doesn’t work.
We’ve all seen that. Look at that fake smile. What also does not work is threatening political opponents with arrest, harassment, and even jail. That is a failed path. Recent history has proven that impeachments and trials turn those on trial into political martyrs and only make them more popular with the American people. Just ask Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. We know this will be a consequential presidency. The question is whether it will be constructive. It will take a new approach from all sides, from both parties. We’re all going to work together. It’s going to take a new approach from all sides.
Bipartisan agreement, Democrats and Republicans are like, this is going to be different, guys. I mean, it’s going to be something that’s jarring, but I don’t know if it’s going to be a bad thing. Oh, the change in tune. After the Civil War comes morning. After morning, you got to get up and you got to deal with the consequences of your actions of what you say yesterday. You know why? Because the internet is forever and we’ll never forget. We’ll never forget, ever. We’ll never forget. Stand 10 toes in it. That’s what people are saying on your side.
They say stand in it. Don’t deflect away from it, stand in it. 10 toes down. Hey, it’s going to be different, but I don’t know. Let’s keep an open mind. Is that because you all lost dramatically and you have no power whatsoever and so now you got to bully him. Hey, hey, hey, either get your way together or you can get out. When you, look, look, look. When you are operating with authority and you demand, you know why this is so important for men to be masculine and to stand on their own too? You know why I always tell guys never move into a woman’s house? Because the minute that you do and you got to switch up and you say, hey, baby, why don’t you do them dishes real quick so we can get up out of here? Who are you talking to? You’re going to get all of that femininity that’s going to go out the window.
You know why? Because you in her house. You in her house. Who are you talking to? I’m sorry. Now you’re going to see when she got you. She was feminine and submissive. Oh, honey, you should just move in with me. I already got a house. Now that you’re in there, hey, baby, you’re trying to operate the same way as if you bought the house. Hey, baby, why don’t you get them dishes done so we can get up out of here? You know, we running late. I’m sorry. Who are you talking to? I’m like, I didn’t work a full day at work.
Next thing you know, neck twisting. You know what I’m saying? Chainsnatching in the air when they talking, clapping their hands, everything. Because you know I’m not going to be sitting here talking to you when you talking to me like that in my house. You know that I went to work, too. It ain’t going to work. Next thing you know, she had a household. She telling you how to vote. You saying happy wife, happy life. You trying to figure it out? No, you have to execute authority, mass authority. No, no, no, no, no.
Listen, I bought this house. You’re going to sit right there. Hey, hey, hey, don’t be spoiled. Ah, you so spoiled. Girl, get over here. You talk different when you bought the house because you operated and you executed the mass. That’s why guys got to be on top of the game. And it’s the same thing when it comes to this election. It’s the same thing. They’re going to bend the knee. You’re going to do it before the fight, after the fight, or you can go ahead. When a girl say, I’m leaving and it’s raining outside, she got to go back to her mom with the house.
All right. All right. Listen, I ain’t even going to trip. Okay. Well, let me know if you need any help. Don’t get mad at her. Don’t go chase her. Why are you leaving? Oh, I can’t believe you’re going to do this. No, if she says she leaving, all right. Listen, listen, I understand. I get it. I feel you. I mean, you got that’s what you say to her next time when you operate an authority and it’s yours and you bought everything and she walking out and it’s cold outside and it’s snowing. I’m leaving.
I get it. You got to do what’s best for you. All right. That’s cool. Listen, let me know if you need anything then they really going to get mad because then they got to humble themselves and then they got to come back and they got to bend the knee. This is what’s happening with the morning. Joe, they’re bending the knee. Come on back to the come on. Come on. Come on. Come on up to Mar-a-Lago. Let’s talk about it. And a leader who can bring them together and only time will tell if Donald Trump is that leader.
As for us, we also let him know that we will continue to speak truth to power and push back hard when called for as we have with all presidents. Don’t be mistaken. We’re not here. We don’t script Joe. We don’t script big dog. We’re here to report on him and to hopefully provide you insights that are going to better equip all of us in understanding these deeply unsettling times and I am reminded of what Marty Barron, legendary editor, told his Washington Post reporters back in the first term.
We’re not going to war. We’re going to work. So let’s go. So as they continue to get killed in the comments because they’re given a narrative, look at these fools. A one by one. One by one, they all going to start to bend the knee. [tr:trw].
