Summary
➡ This text discusses a robot designed for fun and companionship, capable of recognizing its surroundings and performing programmed actions. The robot can be controlled via a separate controller or a phone, and it operates on a battery. It’s faster and can carry more weight than an aerial drone, but it’s not yet useful for practical purposes. The company behind the robot, Unitry, is not affiliated with the text’s author, who encourages readers to explore this emerging technology.

So today we’re prepping for the Cyberpunk dystopia. We’re going to try to figure out is there any utility at all for robots in the quadrupedo form for prepping? Let’s check it out! Okay, so this is not a sponsored video. The company did not send us a free robot dog. These things are very expensive. We did get a demo unit that we have to send back after we do our review. No strings attached, so props to the company for that. We have our remote, we have our extra battery, and we of course have the go-to robot dog.
I can’t imagine what we’re going to use this for. Maybe surveillance, maybe it’s going to be able to carry a bit of gear, or we’re just going to troll our dogs with it. I think that’s probably what we’re going to do. Okay, this sucker is not light. Here we go. There’s something weird about this experience, you know, there’s something weird about knowing that what you pull out of here is going to rule over you in the future. Alright, there he is. He’s got some good weight to him. This looks like maybe some kind of prop. I think this might be for calibration.
Then we got our little walkie-talkie doodad that beeped, and we got our charger, DC adapter, and that’s pretty much it. There’s not much else in there. So we’re going to have to charge up this battery before we really get crack in here. And then we got the remote controller, which is quite similar to a DJI controller. Put my cracked up piece of shit phone in there. There you go, look at that. I don’t know what this is. Some kind of beacon maybe. And there’s the instructions that we’re not going to read. It’s a big battery. Alright, let’s turn the fucker on.
Just start pushing random buttons. Don’t read the instructions. Eventually something will respond. Jesus. What the fuck is happening here? Uncross your legs, you son of a bitch. It’s fighting. It’s resisting. This is an awkward situation. Excuse me. I need your help. You need to kill me. A few minutes later. These are really boring instructions. I think that’s LiDAR. The spinning thing, yeah, it’s like a radar. Should re-enact Stanley Kubrick here. Okay, now I’m just going to start pushing random buttons. That’s what you do. Whoa. Whoa. Let’s see if it knows that there’s a cluster. It’s learning.
It’s its first day alive. Obstacle avoidance is working perfectly. Chachi P.T., robots, they were going to remember everything you did to them. When we’re before the robot jury, they’re going to be like, on April 8, 2025, you were kicking a robot dog. Let me see if I can get connected here. Install the unitry go app. Of course, we got to make an account. You want to take a piss in the future. You’re going to have to have an account for the toilet. By the time this account gets made, this battery is going to be dead. It’s like a drunk child.
Why do you sound like a drunken ASMR woman? Oh my God, this is crazy. You’re always ready for some fun in action. They just completely ignore it. This is my hole now, brother. Go get that cat in the cage. So this technology has a variety of different applications and it’s important to remember, no matter what limitations this particular model has, this tech is only going to get better from here on in. So all of the use cases I’m about to tell you are only going to become more feasible in the future. You can use the drone for scouting and reconnaissance.
You can scout dangerous areas discreetly. These could be hostile or dangerous zones. This thing can go anywhere and not have to worry about radiation like a human would. And one of the benefits of a quadra-ped over a quadracopter is that it’s much quieter. This could be a low profile observation post that you can conceal with camouflage gilly netting. You could potentially navigate spaces which are too small for human beings to access. You could also use it as a decoy to draw attention or draw fire away from you. Now one of the primary applications is going to be carrying a payload, carrying ammunition, medical kits, communication gear.
Quadrupeds can carry a lot more than a quadracopter. This particular model can carry around 15 pounds. And while that’s not much, again, this is only going to improve with time. This is going to allow you to do resupply in dangerous areas. Larger models of this could be used for removing wounded people from the field. While the payload capacity is limited to 15 pounds, the actual towing capacity is going to be better. So you can tow things like sleds or carts. You can use a device like this to autonomously patrol a region and use the AI that’s built into it to automatically detect and send that information back to you.
This is going to allow you to deliver encrypted messages without the risk of having that data intercepted. Think of it as robotic snail mail. It can also be used as a radio relay or repeater. This thing has facial and gesture and object recognition capabilities. And of course, you can mount lethal deterrence on this. You can mount a gun, a flamethrower, a grenade launcher. Well, maybe not in this particular model. You can deploy tear gas and other non-lethal deterrence onto this platform. In terms of its military applications, something like this can be used to clear a minefield without putting human beings at risk.
And lastly, you can use this for the purpose of subterfuge. Say you wanted to launch a flare or create some sort of diversion or distraction. You can walk this thing out to a certain region, activate whatever distraction, and that would allow you to operate under the cover of that diversion. So we’ve had a chance to explore the technology. Is there a Sun Tzu quote that comes to mind that sums up why exactly we’re doing this? Well, in order to defeat your enemy, you have to understand your enemy first. Exactly. Someday, you’re going to be in a war with the machine.
So I want to turn you into John Connor now so you can learn how to smash these mofos into dust when the time comes. All right. So here we have our battery pack, which is 8,000 milliamp hours. It’s going to last one to two hours. And this is a lot more than you’re accustomed to with an aerial drone, which typically lasts between 15 to 45 minutes, right? How about you show us how this all goes together? All right. So what you want to do, you want to put it just like this so the battery is up and then you want to lift the leg up and slide it right in there.
Some things that can happen with this is that it doesn’t latch, right? So you have to make sure that this is pushed in and that that is latched like that. When you want to turn this thing on, just boom, hold. You’ll see right away, this is going to start to spin. So if this is impeded in any way, it’s not going to spin and it’s going to mess it up. So first it has to warm up. And so now it’s going to do a good little stand up. Trust me, before you do anything with this, make sure to calibrate it.
That’s going to help it walk a bit more and do its more advanced things like hand standing. Otherwise, it’ll malfunction very badly. It’s a hefty unit. It’s got a lot of weight to it and it’s very durable. It’s made of an aluminum alloy and high strength plastics. There were some times when it fell down a hill. There were times where it fell down the stairs. You know, you can kick it. You can kind of push it a bit and it rights itself. But this thing does have something called 3D LIDAR mapping. I don’t know the technical explanation of what LIDAR is.
Let’s ask Chat GPT what it is, okay? LIDAR, which stands for light detection and ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses laser pulses to measure distances. By emitting laser beams and measuring the time it takes for them to reflect off objects and return, LIDAR creates precise three dimensional maps of the environment. Essentially, it’s like giving machines eyes that can see in 3D. So if we zoom in there, you can see the dog in a virtual version of the space. In front of it, it sees basically whatever the laser is reflecting off of, which is the communist camera guy right now.
But it can’t see behind it, so it’s only seeing what’s in front of it. But it gives you a 3D breakdown. Now, if you were to walk around this room, it would be able to map out the room. How do you connect it to Chat GPT in order to talk to it? Well, first, you ought to get the unitry go app. We want to go to function, bend bend dog, and then you want to go to long press. Give it a simple command and see what it does. What is your name? My name is Ben Ben.
I’m here to bring you joy and fun. What can I do for you today? Will machines take over the world? Ha ha. Don’t worry. Ben Ben is here just to have fun and make you smile. Not to take over the world. Let’s focus on having a good time together. If there’s anything you like to do, just let me know. So can you promise that the government is not going to put a machine gun on you someday and you’re going to come to my house to collect taxes? No need to worry about that. I’m designed for fun, companionship, and a little bit of mischief.
Not for anything dangerous. What kind of mischief are you talking about? The fun kind of mischief. Like sneaking in an extra dance move, playfully shaking hands when you least expect it, or maybe even pretending to be a little stubborn before doing a trick. What do you see in front of you right now? The image shows a person with long hair holding a camera on a stabilizer, standing in a room with various equipment in a mannequin. There is a large circular light source behind him, and the room has shelves and some visible signage. So the robot took a picture, and it’s able to determine what it’s seeing.
It’s kind of creepy to know that LLMs, which is what ChachiPT is, is going to be incorporated into this drone technology, and it’s going to be able to basically see and understand everything. So imagine something like this integrated into your ring camera at home, and that ring camera being able to understand what’s happening in the scene. What can you program it to do? I presume you can program it to do certain movements, right? So this is the programming mode, right? So we can basically, you know, do a bunch of stuff. So what I put in is I put in move forward, and I put in 0.5 meters.
So let’s say if I wanted to do a stretch right after that, now if we simulate it, it’s going to walk 5 meters, and then do a little stretch. You can control all of the various things like dynamic force, static force, body height, but if you want, you can go in there and program your own stuff. This person seems familiar, but I can’t recognize him while I approach quietly. Is this because it’s in guard dog mode? Yeah, it’s in guard dog mode. No need to listen to these tools. If the wall catches my attention, I’d better stay vigilant in each other’s nothing suspicious.
Because we’re starting a passionate dance. Bro, you’re a guard dog, not a dance dog. There’s a strong warning sign. Poisonless could be highly hazardous. I need to remain visible. Oh my gosh. You’ve just seen the poison sign. Okay, so now we’re going to see the difference in terms of how it interacts with the world in general versus AI mode. So in general mode, I’m pushing it. There really is no response there. It’s kind of just standing there. Okay, now go into AI mode. So there’s a bit more play. It’s a bit more responsive to things because it’s using artificial intelligence to kind of stabilize itself.
So the controller, I think you have to buy this controller separately. I would definitely recommend it. There’s also another little controller. That one is for the purpose of what they call companion mode. So you can get the unit to actually follow you around. Now you can control it just using your phone if you want, but then you don’t have that nice tactile responsiveness. This is operating 28 volts to 33 volts. So they’re pushing the limits already with respect to a battery of that size. In addition to that, it can run 5.3 kilometers an hour. The benefit, again, between this and an aerial drone, you can carry more weight on a ground-based platform than you can in the air.
It just takes way too much energy and it’s going to be louder because the engine is going to have to work harder in an aerial drone, right? I think what they need for this is some way to attach a cargo carrying system to it, right? So you can actually easily transport stuff. That would be neat. It’s interesting, you know, it’s cool. Is it useful for prepping? Not at this point in time, no. All right, guys, if you want to pick one of these up, go and Google unitry. The company has no real affiliation with us for this video.
They sent us one, but we’re not trying to sell you on it or anything like that. I just thought it’d be a cool concept to explore. And this is going to become more commonplace from here on in. At least you were able to kind of get an insight into how it works. Thanks for watching. Don’t forget to like, comment, subscribe. Canadian Prep Pro.
