Okay, I have people ask me this question all the time about filtering water. When I’m on the road for 30-40 days at a whack, I’m not buying bottled water. I’m just not doing it. If I am, it’s absolute last resort. I carry a five-gallon NATO jug in the back strictly for water, and I filter water from home with a big Berkey water filter and bring it on the road with me. But five gallons only last about six to seven days for me. I drink a lot of water, as everyone should, no matter what the temperature is.
So what I do is when I run out of water, I’m almost always in a place where natural water is available. For instance, I’m in Colorado at 10,000 feet. This water runoff is coming from the snowpack at 13,000 feet. So what I do, I grabbed one of these. This is a Sawyer one-gallon bag. They sell for about $17. It has a large opening on one end to fill it, and then a small opening on the other end like a two-gallon bottle. And what you do is you take this opening and you put this $20 Sawyer filter on it, and it will filter 99.9 percent of everything out of the water.
No two ways about it, and these things last for one million gallons, they claim. For 20 bucks, I replace them every every time I think of it. I’ve got about five of these in my truck. But this filters the water down, which I mean, most people would think that this water is already good to go. Unfortunately, I’m not in that school of thought. I filter absolutely everything. So what I’m gonna do, I’m gonna go grab this. I’m gonna fill this up, and I’m gonna show you how to filter it. This is a Sawyer one-gallon bag.
Okay, so now that I’m back at the truck, I’m gonna take this container and this Sawyer water filter. I’m gonna pull the cap, apply a little bit of pressure, and this will start filtering on its own. Now, sadly, I managed to tear the bag, and this is some additional trail trail outtakes. Climbing through the trees, climbing through the trees, you can definitely suffer from scuffs and abrasions. I’ve had that Sawyer water filter bag for about two years. I believe I got it in Virginia in, what is the name of that town? The name escapes me.
The bags are about $20. They’re well worth it. It’s got a hole in it. I can do a trail repair on it, but still, I’m filtering a good three-quarters of a gallon of water right now. It’s filtered and it’s fresh from the mountaintops. You can’t go wrong with that. It’s one of the best water filtration devices I’ve ever used, and I’ve used them all. The hand pumps, the catadines, all these, there’s no moving parts in here. They claim it’ll last either a hundred thousand or a million gallons. I carry several of them because they sell them everywhere.
Twenty bucks at Walmart, and how can you go wrong? At any rate, that’s how you filter water. Now let me break out my first aid kit and tend to this abrasion on my leg because it is bleeding. Always carry first aid. Okay, so you can get these Sawyer water filters at Amazon, Walmart, sporting goods stores, absolutely anywhere, eBay. You can get the smaller version like I showed in the video, and the video wasn’t too complicated because all you do is you screw it to the bag, you squeeze the bag a little, and pour it into a clean receptacle.
For 20 bucks or 30 bucks, they give you a bag to fill up with dirty water that needs to be filtered. They give you the plunger, they give you the straw to clean it out. It’s the easiest, best water filtration device I’ve ever used, and I’ve used them all. A friend of mine in Australia is working on a desalination unit that will clean salt water that you can carry in your cargo pocket. It isn’t done yet. It will be soon. At any rate, it’s late. I wanted to get this video done.
Make sure you give it a like, give it a subscribe, and leave a comment if you feel so inclined. Richie for jailbreak, and I am out. [tr:trw].
