He watched his wife get killed…May 11, 2021 Update
“NO!! Let me go!!!”
Kicking and screaming as much as she could…
They took the butt of their rifle and cracked her right across the face, knocking her unconscious as they dragged her motionless body out of the room…
That was the last time he ever saw his wife.
It was 1945 and Viktor Frankl had been inside Nazi concentration camps for nearly three years now.
He witnessed his parents and brother get hauled off to be killed.
Now his wife was gone…
You would think something like that would break a man completely.
And for many, it did.
But Dr. Frankl knew something.
As he quotes,
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
Even in the depth of such horrendous experiences, he knew he had ultimate control over how he chose to feel and respond.
What a powerful lesson.
He wrote about his experiences in his book, Man’s Search For Meaning.
It’s a great book and I recommend it.
