What she signed, what she’s amended, meaning you’re not done, Virginia. There’s more coming. Guys, I’ve said it before, they told you nobody’s coming for your guns, but right now in Virginia, lawmakers and the ex-CIA operative, Governor Abigail Spanberger, they’re pushing some of the most aggressive gun control in the country. And we now have a clear picture of what’s still alive. Like I said, I’ll tell you what’s been amended, what the amendments were, and what some of these things still can become law. So trust me, this should have every gun owner in the country paying attention because nobody’s out of the woods here.

I love it, and it’s great for the story we’re talking about right now. Link’s down below. All right, so this one comes right from Virginia. I’ve spoken with and consulted with Philip Van Cleve over Virginia Citizens Defense League. I’ve read the updates, the governor’s updates to these bills, and we’re going to give you the lowdown, guys, the skinny. So everything you need to know is in this one. If you don’t know what VCDL is, who they are, they are a grassroots 2A non-partisan organization that exists for one reason and one reason only, to defend your right to keep bear arms in Virginia.
They’re on the front lines tracking legislation, lobbying lawmakers, organizing citizens, and even taking unconstitutional laws to court, which they’re going to be really busy doing. They don’t just talk about your rights, they’re actively in the fight for them. Whether it’s legislative alerts, or their massive lobby day events, or their legal battles, VCDL has proven time and time again that organized citizens can make a real impact. And here’s the bottom line, without groups like VCDL, gun owners of Virginia would already be completely outnumbered at the Capitol. So if you care about your rights, don’t sit on the sidelines, get involved, join VCDL, support them, and be part of the fight, because this is extremely important.
Here we go. These are the current statuses of the gun bills still in play in Virginia. We’re talking about what survived the legislative process, what the governor did, and what could still impact millions of you guys and gals in Virginia. So let’s zoom out for a second. Virginia’s already pushed through a sweeping package of gun control measures this session. Everything from firearms bans to storage laws to expanded liability on the gun industry, you name it. And now we’re in the final phase, but the governor, well she had the opportunity to amend, approve, or veto these bills.
And that deadline passed just over 24 hours ago, and what happened was pretty interesting. So we’ll start with the elephant in the room, the so-called assault weapons ban. All right, multiple bills this session targeted semi-automatic firearms, pistols, rifles, and even shotguns, largely based on cosmetic features and standard configurations. So HB 217 seeks to prohibit the import sale, manufacture, transfer, and purchase of assault firearms on or after July 1st, 2026. Now assault firearms, possessed before July 1st, 2026, are grandfathered and may be possessed, carried, and transported. Not coming for your guns, just coming for the guns of every future generation.
Therefore, that’s a ban, right? Handguns must now have two of the cosmetic features to be considered an assault firearm, not including the removable magazine portion. Now long guns only need to have one cosmetic feature. Minimum magazine capacity is 15 rounds, or I’m sorry, maximum, maximum, minimum would be great. Magazines that hold more than 15 rounds and were made before July 1st, 2026. Good luck telling how they’re grandfathered and can be possessed, transported, and carried, but not sold or purchased in Virginia. Come on over to Tennessee. We love freedom here. We’ll sell you stuff.
Here is the latest development that took place at the deadline. Remember, Harmeet Dillon has threatened to sue Virginia and the governor, and I guess the ball is in your court, Ms. Dillon. Time to follow through on your promise. Now the governor now recommends making any semi-automatic center-fired rifle or pistol with the magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 15 rounds an assault firearm. Guess what, guys and gals? That’s every one of them, because anywhere that exists a magazine of 16 or more rounds, that would turn that gun into an assault firearm by definition in Virginia.
I know it violates, you name it, Second Amendment, Bruin, Heller, McDonald, all of it. Now, let’s talk about bills that have been signed into law on the 11th, 12th, and 13th of this month in the last couple days and are taking effect on July 1st, 2026. Oh, by the way, in the assault firearm thing, a Glock 17, that’s an assault firearm. That tells you how crazy this is. One of them, probably the most popular pistol in the country for not only civilians, but law enforcement. Yeah, that’s assault firearm. SB-115 severely restricts concealed handgun permit reciprocity with other states.
Currently, Virginia honors permits from every other state, even the communist ones, which in turn allows Virginians to be able to carry in most of those states. Massachusetts doesn’t recognize anybody’s because, but Virginia residents may not use a permit from another state to carry in Virginia. You must have a Virginia permit now. HB-110 and SB-496 require a handgun while in a vehicle to be placed out of plain view and in a locked hard-sided container. This was securing guns and cars. The container may be attached to the vehicle’s interior by a steel cable or bolt, a locked glove box, and a locked console can be used to store a gun.
If a stolen gun is reported to law enforcement within 48 hours, then the potential charge for failing to secure the handgun under this code section is waived. Now, SB-272 and HB-626, they restrict firearms at public institutions of higher education by requiring such firearms be part of an authorized program or activity inside the building. HB-901 expands red flag law by allowing more categories of people to petition for someone to be red flagged. The expanded types of petitioners cover various kinds of counselors now and medical professionals. It also now includes immediate family or household members and intimate partners.
And, get this, the recent lawful acquisition of a firearm or ammunition is considered possible evidence that someone might need to be red flagged. So if you live in Virginia and you go buy a gun or some ammunition, that can be used as evidence against you that you need to be red flagged. And that’s a law now. SB-495, another layer to the red flag, adds a family or household member, a mental health service provider, or an appointed evaluator from a community services board to the list of people who can red flag you.
Or petition for a red flag is the proper term. Now, bills that have been modified by the governor at the deadline and returned to the General Assembly to be considered on April 22nd when they are now reconvening. So these are bills that made it to the governor’s desk, she didn’t sign them in the law, she didn’t veto them, she suggests changes, sending them back to the legislature saying do this if you want me to sign it, and they’ll be doing that on April 22nd. So these are all still in play. In addition to what she did on the assault weapon ban bill, ex-CIA Spanberger made some additional tweaks on the remaining bills on her desk to include.
HB-1524 would prohibit the carry of certain loaded semi-automatic rifles, handguns, and shotguns on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right of way, or in any public park, or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public in the Commonwealth. So that’s all of the state, guys. And there’s no exemption for concealed handgun permit holders. So where do you think you’re going to run into issues where you’re going to need to defend yourself, you know, sans someone breaking into your home? Well, it’s going to be on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right of way, or in any public park, or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public.
So you basically are, you don’t have a right to defend yourself in the Commonwealth of Virginia as long as what the governor, I’m about to tell you, what she recommends is done. The governor recommends not allowing any rifle or handgun with a magazine that holds more than 15 rounds to be carried in public and recommends removing the exemptions for off-duty or retired law enforcement and licensed security guards. I can get behind that because every law in this country makes it a dual-class system. There’s the haves, which is usually military law enforcement, and certain armed security, and the have-nots, which is we the people, the people in charge, in power in this country.
And now maybe by removing the exemptions for off-duty cops or retired cops and licensed security guards, maybe you’ll feel that pinch. Maybe you’ll feel that pinch and people will start to join the Constitution side rather than just doing my job side. Now how this will jive with Leosa is a different story because Leosa allows off-duty cops and retired cops, as long as they met a couple thresholds in their career, they can carry concealed everywhere in this country. So I don’t know how Spanberger is going to make a law that supersedes federal law because she can’t, but there’s that.
Now HB 871 would require all firearms in the home that are not being carried on your person to be unloaded and placed in a locked container if there is a minor in the home or if there is a prohibited person in the home. Now a gun may only be stored loaded if it’s in a safe that has either a combination lock, a coded lock, or a biometric lock, and a violation is a class 4 misdemeanor. Gun dealers must post signage about this new law and there is also a provision to educate the public on firearm storage.
Now the governor has sent this back to the legislature and she recommends in her infinite wisdom that any locking device that renders the firearm incapable of being fired be allowed as well. Now ammunition does not have to be stored in a particular manner. The penalty for for this is increased from a class 4 to a class 2 misdemeanor. So she says you know what any type of lock that renders it unable to be fired you know in case you really need the gun you want to make sure you can’t use it but will actually make it a more serious crime if you don’t do that.
HB 229 and SB 173 they prohibit firearms or knives with a blade of longer than three and a half inches in facilities that provide mental health services or developmental services including hospitals, emergency departments, or emergency medical care facilities if they offer such services. In her infinite wisdom the queen recommends removing exemptions for someone with written authorization from the hospital or armed security and someone who’s brought in to the hospital as part of an emergency custody order or involuntary detention. So even if the hospital says Joe Schmoe can have that 3.75 inch blade we say they can this is our property this is our business they can do that governor’s saying nah you don’t have the ability to do that I’m the queen.
HB 101 again she sent that back to the legislature HB 101 eliminates the requirement that a concealed handgun permit be requested in writing allowing for other methods of applying for a permit to to be now the governor recommends using only the wording in writing or electronically I don’t know how else it would have been done but she wanted to be very specific there just in case something some other way is created now HB 1015 prohibits a person convicted of a misdemeanor assault and battery hate crime from being able to possess firearms so basically you lose your rights forever in Virginia if that applies to you HB 702 would create a firearm give back or buy back program the sole purpose is for local law enforcement to act like Nazi Germans and collect and destroy any firearms that are voluntarily turned in with accept exceptions for antiques or historically significant firearms now the ex CIA operative governor recommends changing the term buyback to sell back because all of a sudden optics matter here they’re selling it back they were not buying it back because they never sold them to the people anyway so here optics matters but stripping everybody of all their rights that HB 909 expands the prohibition on the carry of firearms from 40 feet to 100 feet outside of a polling place or outside a building where the local electoral board is meeting now the governor recommends clarifying that the restriction is only when the building or part thereof is being used as an additional registration site HB 1525 would prohibit 18 19 and 20 year olds from purchasing a handgun or assault firearm anywhere in the commonwealth the same people that we send overseas to fight for whatever our country is fighting for that week and when they come home they can’t do that stuff makes total sense spam burger recommends the bill reinstate universal background checks as soon as it becomes effective possibly on april 23rd 2026 and for those who don’t know what a universal background check is it is a registry of the firearm who has what where you all live so you know they know who has what and where you all live i’ll leave it at that and the cherry on top of all of this anti-american communist tyranny is HB 965 and this isn’t even more important more of a slap in the face HB 965 it’s the wicked witch who signed this into law she’s telling us that she will prove to us suckers that she knows more than the founding fathers when it comes to what they wanted when they designed this entire country she just fundamentally changed the federal election system in virginia what do you mean jared well this one kind of flew under the radar span burger effectively rendered virginia’s presidential votes null and void with the measure holding the state’s electoral votes i think it’s 13 electoral votes they have instead of the winner of what the state says this is who we’re voting for she has now basically made virginia give the electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote regardless of the state results doesn’t matter what george washington and patrick henry and thomas jefferson and all those guys and gals who worked so hard behind the scenes to set this all up doesn’t matter because abigail spamburger knows better than you and she just fundamentally changed america for virginia’s guys i know you’re as frustrated as i am but don’t forget time is magazine capacity restricting who can own firearms controlling how you store them restricting where you can carry them that’s not nothing that’s a roadmap this is exactly what the founders warned about and they didn’t write the second amendment for hunting they wrote it to ensure that we the people retain power not abigail spamburger and the communist legislators of the commonwealth of virginia because once government can decide what you can own who can own what and where you can carry them or store them or in who they want your votes to go to you know longer you have a right you probably don’t even have a country guys if you live in virginia this is the moment now not after the rest of these paths not after their sign right now contact virginia citizens defense league
